| Ah, why not...
My musical mentor and close friend when I was in my twenties was Cliff Davies, the drummer/producer for most of the 70's era Ted Nugent stuff. We were in quite a few bands together, and he played at my wedding reception. I had lost track of him until earlier this year when I heard about his suicide.
Kid Rock's former guitarist Kenny Olsen is an acquaintance. He's a huge Hendrix fan, and I managed to coax him onto the stage at an open mic I used to host with the riff from Voodoo Child. Whenever I see him he always points at me and says "this guy..." but never finishes the sentence.
I met country singer Dierks Bentley backstage at a big festival when a band I used to be in was opening for him. I had no idea who he was, and we were both laughing at the porta potty that had a big sign with his name on it.
My hometown is Cadillac Michigan, which is somewhat legendary among KISS fans due to the fact that the band actually participated in the Homecoming Festivities at the high school back in the 70's.
I went to high school with Jackie Swanson, who is the chick who jumps off the roof at the beginning of "Lethal Weapon" and also played Woody's wife on "Cheers." |
