Tell us how you feel about your New Year's Eve gig this year!

I'll start............mine's kinda average, but only about a 3 minute drive from home, and an easy load in.

If by "Killer Gig" you mean familiar venue, 200+ people, lots of friends, open bar tab, play Fri, Sat and New Years Eve for 2 grand of which half is mine because I play in a duo?... then yes I have a Killer Gig.

That sounds fantastic....congratulations!

Really, killer gig, or anything else for the purpose of this poll, means how do YOU view your gig........I guess what I mean is what's killer to one person might be poop to another.....but just tell us how it compares to your other gigs the rest of the year.

Not doing one this year, as our lead singer and drummer bailed on us to form their own project about two months ago, and we haven't found replacements yet. Had an offer to open for another established local band this year, but had to turn it down, obviously.

Not really feeling bad about it...I made about $500 from our NYE gig last year, but it was a decent drive, and our drummer ended up quitting after the show (long, idiotic, story that doesn't need repeating). Kind of looking forward to having the night off and just chilling, really.

This is the first year since I can't remember when I don't have a NYE gig.

I can not begin to state how much I'm looking forward to not gigging.

A bar full of people that only go out once a year, drink too much, get stupid, act stupid, drive stupid...

Bars are places for experienced professional drinkers not amatures.

I enjoyed a year off about 5 years ago, came back to feel fresh and ready to play.

I'm playing a great venue, and the money is pretty darn good too. I don't think I'll be having any cocktails at all on New Years Eve, there will be lots of drunks out, and I don't want to be mistaken for one.

I voted "so bad..."

The show is for killer money. I'll make way more than a typical weekend night (which is still great cash), but it's at a resort.

I like playing clubs. That's my thing. Big clubs with younger drunks (preferably gurls) getting their drink on, being crazy and having fun.

I'm gonna hate the Vegas "lounge-act" feel of the NYE gig. Hate it. We even have to wear tuxes. I've never worn a tux in my life, and now I have to strap one on for a GIG!!!

Oh well, it's only one night. I guess I really shouldn't bitch... But you asked!!!

Thumbs up ... have a Happy and Safe New Year !!

on the upside ....
a private party ...
an outdoor gig , stage and lighting provided ...
not too far from home , easy in , easy out ...
decent cash for each member , free food and open bar ...

on the downside ...
gig depends on the weather ...
driving home , watching out for drunks ...

please don't drive drunk ...
call a cab , or have a friend who is sober take you home ...

so yeah , mine is gonna be kinda' average , i guess ...

Our favourite venue for double pay. It'll be packed, and totally jumping...

Maybe not killer, but definatly better than OK.

The only realy downside is I'll be away from the familiy, but it's local, and won't be a late finish (they don't have an extension on they're music license, so subject to last minute changes we stop playing at 12!).

2-300 people I know, at my girlfriend's restaurant, triple what I normally get for a club gig, free Italian food, free drinks, a good cigar, fireworks show at midnite in the parking lot, cops on our side, fire dept. personnel onhand, 11 miles from home, playing from 8-9, then a half-hour break, then 930-1030, another break, then 1100-1201, 45 min break, then 1245-130...and only 11 miles from the casa! Plus my girlfriend will be onhand for roadie support! She's a doll, and a strong doll at that! Lifts my Schroeder 310212R into the back of the Jeep by herself!

All in all, a killer regular NYE gig (third year in a row!)

I find New Years kind of depressing but the extra cash helps in mitigating those feelings.

I'm with you, brother! That's why I keep doing the NYE thing...I have property taxes due that I needed help with anyway!

Compared to other New Year's Eve gigs, I guess this one will be kinda okay. Private party at a yacht club, decent pay ($1,200) for a trio, pretty light hours (10:00 pm - 1:30 am), excellent (and free) food, free cocktails, the wives are all invited (and they all get along with each other ), super easy load-in, load-out .....

I've done some monster NYE gigs through the years, so in comparison this one is much lower on the prestige scale, but I'm very okay with that .....

We have a house party NYE gig for the second year in a row. The house is a classy old home with an elevated "music room" that works perfectly as a stage. The money could be better ($200/man) but we get excellent food and drinks, a very appreciative audience (we got several good paying house party gigs over the summer as a result of playing last NYE) and none of us have more than a 15 minute drive home. It's not the perfect gig, but it's damned close.

Private party at a local bar. Around 100 people, free food, lots of friends and even some family.

Only downside it will be a late finish, so have to watch out for the drunks.
