I liked the "No 60 year old burnouts" part. Do you suppose they'd accept Leslie West? He has lost a lot of weight from the old days and might not be considered "fat guy" anymore. Is Paul Goddard of ARS fame still around and as large as he was? He was fat but I would have him as a player.

you can keep naming names of famous fat players, it wont change the fact that none of them will be responding to this ad.

You want a good looking band, not a bunch of rotund manatees falling over each other.

I see where he is coming from. But it could have been phrased more diplomatically.

I see more and more stories indicating that the obese are now the most discriminated against and reviled segment of our society. Airline seats now, health insurance premiums next.

Maybe "looking for players similar in appearance to Sting and Andy"? I mean, it looks like a tribute band so that is not beyond reason.

I'm no beanpole myself, but I like a dude (or two, or nineteen) in the band with a bit of mass to them - not only do they spend less time chasing tail (usually), but I look better by comparison!

Still, though - the guy's a moron. And a disrespectful tool. We all have impolite thoughts, but most of us have the common courtesy to not put them into words. Me, I'd be perfectly happy to have an obese senior in my band - as long as he can play. Isn't that what's really important?

You know, as much as it pains me (as a 45-year-old guy who's doctor says he's ten-to fifteen pounds over best-weight), I can empathize with this drummer: A Police tribute won't be taken seriously by ANY crowd who sees a fat old guy up there playing bass, no matter HOW much he cops Sting's sound.

Hard old world, but it's true: visuals DO count. it's not this drummer's fault that Sting and Andy were/are good-looking guys of optimum body-weight and type. I'm sure if he were forming an ARS band, then fat, sluggish bassists would be welcome...

+1, kind of. I can see why a Police tribute band would want slim members. I just don't know why sluggish had to used as an adjective with fat. Alot of fat people are very mobile and active, we're just fat.

Hey, some of the guys that were raised in a basement or outwardly have no conscience-will say just about anything, and ACT as if they could care less what people think. Some of us like to have a positive influence, and not trash people-Nuff said...

I'm not hefty, just know how to size up pipsqueaks.

The guy who wrote that ad is a MAJOR douche, but i understand him, i´m a fat slouch, and i know that i´ve been turned down from some gigs because of the way i look, ironically enough my so-called "chops" would have been more than enough to nail those damn gigs. Now, time to hit the gym and shut my effin´mouth, i know that i can make it, i´ve done it before, it´s not only aesthetics, it´s about health too...now those damn carbs...make the finish line look so far away.

Edit: I´m kind of pissed because one of the gigs i lost is my favorite local band, i´ve jammed and played with every member in separate projects, and they dig my playing (not to toot my own horn but it´s true) but their management is pretty set on having healthy looking guys on board, they spend time and effort trying to look as good as they can and i respect that.

That was just full of contradictions. All they need are 2 guys that can play and sing like Sting and Andy. But dropping the vocals an octave is ok....... ***???
