No humor

My playing career came to an end yesterday when a family dust up resulted in me losing most of my gear. In a way, I don't care because I was never going to find another band anyways. Being on 2nd shift kinda put a cramp in that.

I have one bass and a combo left now and those are going into storage. It was a nice run, but it be over and I won't miss it.

Yeah thats bull crap. No one gives up so easily after 30 years of playing. Details are sketchy.

So what happened? You wrecked something of some family member (car perhaps?) and have to sell gear to pay for it?

hey man, i dont mean to be rude. But if your playing career has ended, why would you bother coming on here to tell us?
What do you think we can do about the whole situation apart from sound concerned and try and sway your decision...and to me you sound pretty certain.

If you really want to quit bass, good on you, i know for sure i wouldnt have the strength to do it. Have fun with whatever it is you choose to do with your free time, as you obviously have no passion left for the bass.

Best of luck, Dave.

I wish you the best, and if you are truly quitting the bass, after a short time to be sure, sell your gear or donate it to a local music program, don't let it rot in storage.

Also, can it be you are just really angry right now and may change your mind?

As for me I will be noodling around on a bass when I'm 95...God willing I should live so long...I could never stop.

How did a family conflict end up with you losing most of your gear?

Man, you guys are harsh.

I dont think you should quit after 30 years, but I wont judge you because of it. I wish you the best of luck man!

I came on here to vent. Sorry if it is a problem for you to hear. Yes I have a job, but I also have three kids to raise and buying all new gear is not in the future. Excuse me for being pissed off right now. I thought maybe the good folks of TB would listen and not judge, but I guess I was wrong.

Some people will be judgemental anywhere you go, even on TB.

I was just curious to the general circumstances behind your situation. It almost could be interpreted like someone in your family was violent and destroyed some of your gear, and you feel completely beaten-down, morale-wise...

I stopped playing nearly five years ago...to save my marriage and raise my kids. Times changed, I matured, I learned time management, my kids aren't in diapers anymore, my wife and I understand each other better...and I'm back to playing.

Call it a hiatus, Blizzardbass. As corny as it sounds, the music is in your heart. As long as you simply think about it, you haven't given it up. If you never get back to playing live or pursuing this as a career, so fxxking what? You do something a fraction of a fraction of the people in this world can do. Take pride in that, and enjoy it when you can.

May you achieve some inner peace sooner rather than later. Best of luck.

You couldn't expect people not to ask questions. You weren't very clear about what happened, so it's only natural for them to ask.

And we're all still wondering. If you want to vent and for us to listen, you have to at least give us a vague idea on what happened.

I accused a family member of stealing from another and the one I blamed got pissed. Long story short, I was basically told to return the gear that the other one helped me get. I will NEVER play again. I have no heart to play after all this. Sorry to whine to you all. I just needed to get it off my chest.
