Earlier, I forgot to post about another show we played. It was supposed to be 3 bands playing a benefit show(to raise money for a group of local musicians to open a live music venue) at a practice space. The three bands showed up, and a band that was rehearsing a few doors down came over to listen a couple of songs in. Turns out that no one gave anyone the combination to get into the Public Storage place's gate, so we ended up having 3 bands(13 people total) play for an audience of 4. It's no wonder the music venue we opened only stayed open for a month.

The passion is already in the musician, it's not feeded by the crowd. Although a good crowd is the nicest feedback you can have.
Yep. I just pretend the place is packed. Even if I'm playing to four guys who speak no English and don't tip. (This has actually happened.) I play to them like they're 10,000 screaming fans. (Which is pure fantasy, anyway...hey, if we're having a fantasy crowd, why not a HUGE fantasy crowd? LOL!)

My friend Dave and I once went to see Dr. John at Wolverhampton Civic Hall in the UK. We only saw it advertised a few days before the gig so we were amazed to get tickets.

Anyway, the layout for the gig was cabaret style with large round tables taking up all the floor space. It as a bit quiet around the tables with only 4 or 5 people sat at each one, even though each table sat 12.

I commented to Dave that there must be loads of people sat upstairs in the circle which we couldn't see from where we were sat near the back.

Anyway, it was a fantastic gig. They gave it absolutely everything. Dr John's bassist for that show, who I never learned the name of, was my inspiration to start playing.

Towards the end of the gig everyone sat at the tables stood up and wandered to the front by the stage. When we turned to look up toward the circle there wasn't a single person sat up there!

So Dr John was playing to only about 50 people and still played like it was a full house! That's the attitude I take to every gig. Well, if it's good enough for Dr John...

Anyway, back to the OP. My band has played to small numbers of people but we still give it everything. Our best gig since we got a new singer was playing out doors at some village fete thing. Our audience was made up of people queuing at the beer tent. Very RnR!
