I love having conversations w/ people where they found a cheaper/better alternative to essentials they use on a gig rig. Like a drummer who gets the plastic shield for their cymbals at Home Depot for a fraction of the cost, or using a gun case to store stuff that is much cheaper... I definitely have a few things on my rig from Depot like my accessory bag (that has pockets perfect for pedals), extension chords and dollies.
Anyone else find any cool non-musical gear to adapt to your rig? |

To close it, I use an old thermos cork that happened to be the right diameter. And I mean old - it's made from real cork, and it's from a real Thermos brand thermos.

I tape the trigger of the nail gun using duct tape. I plug the nail gun into the light dimmer and then into the main AC supply. I adjust the light dimmer so the nail gun fires at the correct bpm. I have marks on the light dimmer corresponding to each bpm setting from 50 to 140.

Wow, I just looked up what those cost at music stores, and they range from 2.50 to 9 dollars. That's ridiculous when you could pick up a bit of it for probably less than ten cents at a hardware store. |

One of my old bands use to carry around Astroglide to all our gigs... for the ear buds in our IEM system. They were custom molded, and were very tight in our ears. We needed lube for 'em. However, just like porn stars seem to have found out in the last few years, spit ended up working much better. |

Also, I use various remote controllers (TV, led light etc.) near the pickups to get the nice pulse in, then put it through a bass synth and other effects. Great for confusing the audience when you're supposed to have a solo! Electric razors and other objects with motors also make fun sounds.
A Powerball + some effects sounds just like a didgeridoo or an airplane, depending on what you use with it and how fast the RPM is. |

Had latches, a hinged lid, foam lined inside and a handle. Works better then the milk crate it replaced for carrying cables, spare pedals, spare parts, whatever else is left over. It's like a small parts chest for me to securely store acsessories and parts. It used to go to gigs with me and carry cables, mics, and what few pedals I used to use. Now I have a full pedal board, so I just use the pedal train case stuffed to the brim.
