Thats very funny. Having done about (lets see) 40 of those gigs its pretty predictable what will happen. It will be Old Lamp Sign into the current huge dance hit du jour. I'm thinkin' for this year it should be I've Got A Feelin'". I'm playing for a pretty rich, fairly sedate, East side of Manhattan type people and I'm pretty sure that might be too hip.
Its funny how you think that it would be the song used everywhere as Guy Lombardo was a New Years eve fixture in the USA for years. One year long ago, my disco band was out on the road in a club for the week that included New Years. It was deep in New Jersey, closer to Philadelphia than anywhere else. We assumed that Auld Lang Syne would be the tune. Nobody sang or moved. The crowd just stared. The owner told us to play Golden Slippers. He had to hum it and then we recognized it and played it. Turns out, in Philly on New Years day they have a huge parade ( Mummers Day ?)with banjo bands and they all play Golden Slippers.
At this point in life, I'm happy and lucky to be able to play anything on New Years eve
