Oh Craigslist...

What I'm thinking is that it would be cool to start an all gay pop group!! Think like the spice girls but all gay guys!!! I'm a singer/former theatre student and think it would be an awesome (and controversial) new avenue to explore!! With the political and social climate being what it is i think the world is finally ready for a power pop group of gay guys who have an unstoppable and lasting force on the biz!!!
Let me know if this is something that might interest you... you never know.... we could be huge!!!! lol

Now I got nothing against gays, but come on...

What's wrong with it? I think it might be kind of cool... give the guy some credit for coming up with a new idea!

Does the construction worker remind anyone else of Lt. Jim Dangle, from Reno 911? Coincidence?

Eh, at least he's making an attempt to do something he wants to do. Unlike a lot of people who just sit there on their butts all day and never get out and try anything. Sure, it's a bit corny but I'm willing to bet 99% of you play in bands I'd find pretty cheesy too, and vice versa.

To each their own.

I'm sure there have been plenty of gay pop groups, but not too many that marketed themselves as such. Hell, it seemed to have worked to generate buzz for that Russian pair that worked the lesbian angle a few years back, anyway.

If they worked hard enough and marketed themselves really well, I don't see why they couldn't succeed.

I guest I don't understand why this thread exists; the only thing funny about it - if you're still in high school - is that he's gay. He's just a guy trying to make a group. Nothing to see here folks, move along....

The only funny thing about it is the Craiglister thinks he has some innovative, ground-breaking idea... after Boy George, the Village People, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Indigo Girls, Tegan & Sara, and the like. The only difference is that this fledgling Malcom McLaren would be exploiting sexuality to sell his records, when most musicians in the LGBT community have the self-respect and decency to avoid that.

Absolutely. That character was purposely made to be sexually ambiguous.

Yeah, I'm in the same train of thought. I'm willing to bet the person who posted this ad in CL is probably still in High School himself or something, and probably just wants to meet other people "like him". Can be rough being different when you're young.

I mean hell, I'm almost 30 and when we made our band, we were thinking "hey, guys. Let's all just get together and make a zombie themed death n' roll band. No one around here likes that type of music and it'd just be plain fun to do."

So as long as he's having fun and not hurting anyone else or ripping them off somehow, meh. Themed bands are not a new idea (anyone remember L7, appropriate for this scenario I think) or anything, but I don't see what's so awful or funny or stupid about the idea compared with some others I've heard and seen.

Wow. Some of you took this thread way too seriously. I have no problem with the guy being gay whatsoever. But that ad is funny. Or at least it was until some of you guys ruined it for me.
