| Ok, I have a story.. don't know if it had to do with the moon, the date, or illegal substances.
I had just finished the fourth and final set at blues club downtown Friday nite. I set walked offstage just to relax for a few minutes with my girlfriend before we started breaking down.
This guy walks up to me and says 'Hey man I play bass. Lemme play your bass. I can shred your bass, man'. I'm thinking to myself 'Congratulations, you're now cool..' but basically told him that I didn't let anyone play my bass.
He kept insisting, saying he can 'shred'. I kept saying 'sorry, no.' He went off on this tangent about his own basses (one was a Gibson with a Fender neck(?)) and how he can read music cause he went to school. Then another ditty about he can shred just like Cliff Burton. I asked him if he was in a band and he said 'No band can handle me'. (yeah whatever) Throughout all of this he kept wanting to 'shred' my bass. Finally he said 'Come on man, I can blow you away. You can't play.' I said 'Look I have to break down now. See ya!' He walks away shaking his head and exhaling loudly.
Five minutes later this guy is picking a fight with another table and the bouncer is escorting him outside to have talk with him. I honestly think the guy was tweaking because he was seriously on the edge.
My drummer tells me he got approached by some keyboardist in the crowd telling him that if he wants to 'grow' he needs to get an electronic kit and how he needs to do this and that with his drums to get a better sound.
What is it with these geniuses thinking they need to hand out their UNSOLICITED advice to any musician whose ear they can bend? I'm not saying I'm above criticism or advice, but these guys approach just grates on me. I think it's a need to feel superior. |
