So the band o played in was a 3 piece classic/hard rock band. I combined technique, ala the ox, and effects to broaden the sound. last gig dipwad wants me to use DISTORTION to cover his guitar parts he couldnt play! heres the question, I dont feel too bad about quitting after the gig but, was it wrong to leave Beck jr. at the show as i had to carry his butt both to and through the show?
no offense to beck fans, either one of you. |

I throw on distortion ALL THE TIME and play guitar parts with my bass. It allows for some cool guitar doubling or a backing when the guitar is soloing.

Personally, I'd love being in a band where I was doing the guitar parts on bass

| | | But wait....if bass players are just "failed guitarists", how can we possibly be expected to cover something so incredibly difficult and beyond our capability as "guitar parts" while the guitar player is soloing ?

Brings back 25 years old memories...!
This was moved from technique to humor? Why?

What exactly is a 'guitar part' and how does it differ from a 'bass part'?
I would say that I play the bass guitar. Its a very versatile instrument if you know how to play it effectively. I play more lead parts than anyone else in my 5 piece band. Maybe you hsould have been soloing over his rhythm guitar parts?

Maybe even play higher on the neck, but run through an octave pedal, sending that signal to the bass amp. Or buy a 12'r or something. |
