one of your band mates bomb THIS MUCH at a gig?

Sign in to disble this ad
a few months back i hooked up with this singer who had a manager and she had some songs recorded and even had a cd recorded. so we spent a month or two learning the songs and practicing them. and on the night of our first gig she gets sick... AND DRUNK

dont know which came first... but she showed up to the gig an hour and a half late on top of being drunk and sick, and was stuborn as hell on top of it, wouldnt listen to us telling her to not perform. but... she did anyway, well, the gig was being taped.

and upuntil now i respected her enough to not show the tape, but shes been a complete flake and doesnt deserve that much respect when she didnt respect the band enough. (i know two wrongs dont make a right, but she has it coming to her heh. and ontop of the stories i could tell, she completely dissapeared on the band like 5 months back)

so.... she shows up late, and then decides the first song she wants to do is this trance type song she had recorded and was just going to sing over it while we did some back up garbage,

so at that point we had been set up and warmed up for 2 hours and now we arent even really playing... after she bombed on that she left the stage to take another drink... the DJ put on some chilli peppers and the club owner guy told us to just jam around to it. then she got back on the stage and we went into the second song which is an actual song where we all play, and she completely bombs again, and its probably too dark in the video but later on you see her grab onto my arm to keep herself up....

and here we go with the videos....

http://youtube.com/watch?v=554-HV3rhrY her singing to the back up track while we garbage around...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=CHPFy9Vjdis us screwing around to chilli peppers then her coming back on for our song

but anyway... have you guys got any disasters taped you are willing to share?

SUBSCRIBED

Not NEARLY as self inflicted, one of my earliest gigs in high school, guitar string breaks, he goes on, drum stool breaks, trumpet case is used, kick pedal breaks, just kick the freakin bass drum, something on the guitar breaks, and tuneability is WAY out of what, and I am playing punk in a button up shirt tucked in. Morons, all of us.

I have no idea where that tape was, but man it was tough to watch.

Oh man i really really wanna see this. I find that female singer, and hold on cuz im gonna generalize, are either super cool or head cases. I play with my roomate alot who is an incredible singer, and couldnt be more down to earth. Ive also played with female artists who couldnt tune their own guitar and were super demandy. Your situation is an unfortunate one. Look at it this way, youll have a great story to tell forever.

Heh, just today I got an email from a pal saying he obtained a gig video from 1984 of a punk band I was in. Asked me if I wanted a copy & I say sure, I'd never seen it. I then realized it was the show where I accidentally ripped the crotch outta my pants & I was, er-uh, going commando. I'm sure nothing went floppin' out or whatever but still, don't think I wanna see it afterall.

you know......

she doesn't sound so bad in the first track. She is STRUGGLING on the chorus of the second track, other than that might be just my in my office listening, but not as bad as could have been. Not sure that band was completely tight in the second one either.

Personally, I am not to sure I'd be posting that vid with that title, a little vindicitive imo. I'd just move on if it wasn't my thing.

That said, that is a SWEET stage!

I'd agree with all of the above.

Yeah, I have to say the whole band was pretty bad. There's still no excuse for getting drunk before a gig.

I did a gig with a guy who lost his voice, earlier that day we did a gig outside and it was COLD and he was a smoker, and I don't think that worked very well together.

So here I am thinking that we might have to cover for him a little bit, but halfway through first set, he tells us to sit out and he does a solo rendition of Springsteen's Thunder Road. i could have sworn this guy was singing it...

heh yea, i know im calling the kettle black, but after the way she treated us before we went on and in the past weeks, we didnt care too much about being there, the crowed wasnt even that interested in us anyway, they were a bunch of 12 year old "gangstas" who cam to teh club for the money drop. it was a teen night heh.

but its like, she would hit these high and intense notes and then at the gig she would dumb things down and then when she stumbeled around it kinda turned all of us from being there....

What she did might have been uncool, but she's far from being the worst performer on that stage imo...

Yes she was drunk, and yes she was bad. But what excuse do the rest of you cats have?

I'm sorry to be so harsh, but hopefully you'll take this as constructively harsh from someone with quite a bit of professional experience, some of that experience (thankfully very little) playing with people who had no business being on any stage at any place or at any time.

It was immature of you to post that video on YouTube. Immature and unprofessional. You haven't done yourself or your bandmates any favors by posting that crap either, although you conveniently afforded yourself complete anonymity while naming the singer. It is the personal responsibility of any musician to show up for any gig prepared, rehearsed and ready to bring their "A" game. If you guys had it together what should have happened was a tight performance by the band behind a drunk who couldn't sing in tune, instead of a complete and total train wreck.

Everybody screws up. Nobody deserves to have their screw-ups displayed where they were not intended to be seen.

Again I am sorry to be so harsh with you, but it disturbs me that you posted that for the world to see.

^^ hear hear.

being a musican is one thing. being a professional is another. and there have been two people here on TB who have gotten fired for posting stuff about their band on the internet.

poor taste, dood.

Show her the vids and ask her is this acceptable and is this an acceptable level of performance of where she expects the band to be.

Put the judgment level on her.

I did a gig with a singer/songwriter, learned his material from a CD and he proceeded to do the entire gig literally making up tunes on the fly, words and all. I think I went through two sweat towels before that gig was over. Thank God it was'nt recorded.
