Your arm doesn't line up?

+1 on the tuner.

Edit: Is the light shining through you?

Bingo Snapped the key straight off on a cymbal - man, that was a tiny stage! haha. New machine will be here Monday.

It was a good gig, though. The owner told us it was the best Thursday he'd had in 4 months, and he wants to give us a regular Friday or Saturday monthly spot on the calendar starting in March, so that's cool.

Here's another shot... It's not so much a stage as a corner of the room, LOL. It's actually kind of cool to be that close to the audience - we could literally reach out and touch them, see their faces. Last Sunday I played at a 2,000-seater and you know, I actually have a lot more fun at these gigs.

You're wearing an ACDC shirt and playing a 6string?

Haha, well, that wasn't the shirt I was going to wear, but I spilled something on it, and this one was clean (had never worn it before, actually). The whole night was kind of "one of those days." Anyway, I like AC/DC okay but I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan. We covered "Whole Lotta Rosie" that night, actually; it went over pretty well.

That was the first thought I had.

Once you go six, you never go back Actually, I started on classical guitar, and I do a lot of fingerstyle/classical guitar/flamenco guitar technique. I've never been comfortable on 4-strings, and my first bass was a 5er. This one (Ristola) wasn't my first six but it's definitely my favorite.

what's wrong? A bass is only supposed to have 4 strings, good start, but you're only halfway there... Go break that B string off!

Thanks! That's Andy Dow (emjazz on TB)'s old Ristola. It's a wonderful instrument - it has Delano pickups and the ramp is a lot of fun. Very nice, clear, punchy tone, with SO much sustain and fullness on the low end - very, very versatile. I intended to use it mostly for sessions and not take it out much live, but I love playing it so much that it's become my main bass all around.

How on Earth can you break a tuning key off? It would never happen to a T-Bird...

Because the headstock would break off first?
