So my band played at UTA's battle of the bands yesterday. The prize was 200$ and to open up for a national act called the bravery at springvest at UTA. ANyway, to start off if you have ever been to UTA you know the streets are a maze and theres no direct way to get to point A to Point B.

So were in the big whit panel van, going through streets, took a left at an apt complex, left at a dumpster, left at another dumpster and finaly made it to the place to play. Fun..getting all those looks in our big whit panel van..inside joke with the band..probly shouldnt post it.

So we get there, and have to lug our equipment about 200ft, up some stairs..we look around and the other bands brought little combos... versus our stacks.

So we do what could be called a sound check, finaly get all our sounds right moniters working, drums mic'd, sound guy didnt know how to connect the DI to my bass head...

An hour latter when its time to play we get on stage...they say go..we played...NO monitors.no drum mics..my bass being the only thing audible..judges were looking like...

We look at each other...and cranked the **** out of our amps and blow everybody away..at this point it was a laughing matter we did not care to win....well...we did..
Turns out the judges (some guys that have been in the music industry for a long while now) Said our sound was completly original, tight, and after "we" fixed the sound issue it was rockin.

Best part was though at the end of everybody playing we were taking stuff off the stage and they annouced..WAKING ALICE is the winner. We all just broke up busting our guts..one guitarist was speachless..like I said we went into thinking it was almost a joke... turned into an awsome day

That's why they say... The Show Must Go On..."

Find a way. Never give up. Never surrender!

i'm guessing waking alice is your band????? it's really not clear from the post. still....fun story. i played a similar gig where the sound guy muted the mic on my guitar rig, and i was the only guitarist. it was a big outdoor festival, so the only thing the audience heard was bass, drums, and vocals.....hehe.
