I've only been playing about 2 months ..but since I started I've been chit chatting with a local band .. likes to talk shop and the band is always welcoming a sit in player to play so last night I mustered up the courage to take my bass with me to the club .. small crowd, abou 100 ppl ..
they'd never heard me b4 ... middle of the 2nd set they invited me up to play Brown Eyed Girl .. I nailed most of it .. but I was a little nervous too .. Hit most of the solo but forgot that when they play it they do the solo line twice and usually the main bass guy does something a little different for it.
Hehehe .. now time to get my own band I guess. lol. |

Last night I actually burned Free Bird by lynrd skynrd and the bass line is real fast in that one mostly the same way .. up and down the scale.
I'm finding I can improvise most any bass line now ... definately time to start finding a band I think. |

| | | If you think you can improvise any bass line after 2 months of bass you have a long way to go
Congrats on your gig though |

You don't have far to go to ketchup - then you can really relish these moments...
Seriously - good deal! No turning back now! |

Newbies take note: get in there and gig ASAP like this guy. It's like old-school swimming lessons where dad just chucks you into the deep end. Also, as a vet I'll keep an eye out for new guys and drag them on the stage.

Just watch out for Renaissance-fair gigs. I did one and had a run in with an archer and it was a real arrowing experience, but I'll spear you the details unless you have any questions you want to axe me. One thing I always flailed to understand though, was why he was such a sword loser.

Congrats on a successful number. And, since it was your solo to do, you get to do it for as short as you like to.
I like that little solo, I worked up a little tappy thing to end
it with just to flash it up a bit. Surprised my guitards a bit
the last time we played that.
