Yessireee, I sure did!!!
We went to a jam at Nuno's, on 6th Street, last night. We'd been encouraged to do so by house band, and we've been wanting to play that place, so we went.
Pinetop Perkins was there, most of the night. He got up and played five songs with the house band, including "How Long", "Big Fat Mama", and "Got My Mojo Workin'". OMG, how exciting to be able to stand five feet away from a legend and watch him just jam and have a good time!
That man is 94 years old. And he's *still* got it!!!
We were able to get up and play a few songs as a band, and then had other players join us, including the house band members, Joe He!! & The Red Roosters. These guys are a 3-piece from Montreal. If you ever get a chance to jam with them, do it!!! They're wonderful guys, and an excellent band.
We also had a sax player and a keyboard player get up, and pretty soon we were just rotating musicians and having a great time.
Pinetop liked us. He especially seemed to like our singer.
This was my very first time to play on 6th Street, I got to play repeatedly, and we got seen by a legend.
I'm just over the moon!!!

just never heard of this Pinetar guy, is all..
The "Legends of Blues" album doesn't list him either...
But I'll take your word for it! congrats!

| | | | I can vouch for his existence... I saw him play in Muddy Waters's band in Boston during the mid-seventies. Bob Margolin, Willie Smith, Luther Guitar Johnson and Jerry Portnoy were also in the band. |

a long and illustrious career, not the least of which was playing with Muddy Waters, guy and band that
was always top notch.
When I think of Pinetop, I think barrel-house piano
blues and boogie woogie.
Pretty special.
Darlin', did you get a pic?

There were a lot of pics taken, though. If I can get some from Joe, I'll post 'em.
It really was very awe-inspiring, to get to see Mr. Perkins in such a relaxed and intimate setting. And what a charge we got from seeing him enjoy us! Rather like having God come to Sunday dinner and really enjoying the roast chicken.

I look at those experiences as kind of a rite of passage. All the better in a comfy environment too though, eh? |

It felt like a rite of passage. I was soooooo nervous. But we were received well enough to get a gig booked. And when Mr. Perkins smiled, it was like the sun came out!

Your story remids me oa jazz band in my high school. Louie Belson came as a guest player so the jazz band backed him up. I was amazed at how much he knew about arrangements and how to play all the instruments. It was especially scarry due to the fact I had played bass for almost 6 months when this happened.
