I was with them for about three years. I left them when I decided I was moving to CO. What a fun gig. And yeah, Crystal Rocks and us gigged in WAY too heavy rotation years back (that was just a little before my time, actually). Quote:

The tricky part is learning how to read the drummer to know if he's going to add or drop any of the tunes from it. That alone took a year!

It got everyone's attention (and sounded good) but when they stopped I wanted to throw my beer at them. It didn't lessen my opinion of them, but playing the whole song (well) would have made me like the band (and enjoy the show) a hundred times more. |

We understand people hate it, so it doesn't happen anymore.
As for medley's we play a few (though not as intense as Eric618) that seem to work really, really well.
Under the Sea (from little mermaid)
Any Man of Mine (Shania Twain)
Hero (Enrique Iglesias)
Crossfire (board game theme music)
Captain Planet Theme
Carry on my wayward sun (the between verse and chorus lick)
Danger zone (kenny loggins)
Carry on lick
Back in Black
Carry on lick a few times out
We also have an R&B medley that has like genuine and justin timberlake.

If it's for that purpose, I actually dig it a lot. That's completely different from playing half a cover, stopping, and moving on with the rest of your set, though. As a listener, that could totally ruin the set for me. As a musician, I see it as completely unprofessional and lacking in polish. If there's one thing to pride yourself on, it should be professionalism and a well-oiled show. |

Much Kudos for that.
we add the intro of a well known song in as a transition from a drum solo into the outro for one of our songs, most people really get into it.
the last few times I've seen RHCP live they have started (I think) Californication with the opening few bars of the Clash's London's Calling, which always seems to be well recieved.
I guess it just depends on how you do it and the audience you have.

Me, the drummer and the lead guitarist are huge fans and the rest of the band said, go ahead (but no longer than 10 minutes!) lol
We are starting with 2112, into Distant Early Warning, into Force 10 into...uh...I dont remember. Should be fun though. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
