i experience two types of a downer after a gig: a few hours afterwards, once the adrenaline is out of my system; and a few days after, when i have to return to real life.
experiencing it right now, actually, since we had a loaded weekend and are taking a break for a week. A WEEK!
yeh, i know it's not long, but it's a really long time for us, since we play 3-4 times a week.

how do people deal with the letdown/depression/downer after gigs?

I don't experience a downer after a gig unless it really sucked. I usually ride the "high" for hours. I don't necessarily mean the chemically induced kind of high, either.

I experience what I call the Sunday Blues. Right before I return to real life.

In my 25+ years of playing, I've never developed a good coping mechanism. It always sucks. I just soldier on and look toward the next show.

I agree with the post-gig "happy high" thing. I don't experience any kind of "letdown" after a show...... I enjoy the show, I enjoy thinking about it after, and I look forward to the next one.

Just lucky, I suppose.

I played this past weekend for the first time since mid March. Talk about the blues I have one more scheduled gig on the 23rd, and then only one on july 27th. It's dry as dirt in these parts unless you want to play for free, and that's more of a bummer to me.

i guess i get that too... i feel great after playing etc, but then once i have to start going back to work, often the next day, or just go for a while without doing any band related activity i start getting a bit down. because everything in my life is pretty meh except for music.

gah, i hate having to go to work. anyone wanna pay me a wage just for being so awesome? hahaha

i dont really have any coping mechanism... i just think 'oh well thats life' and get on with it

I get it rarely but it still sucks. Normally if I have to leave and get to work or leave early cause I am working the next day.

Last gig we finished the second set at 11:30 and I was to be at work for 12:15. 12 hour night shift. I took the first half off on holiday then went in for the second half. I had to leave just as the band were all getting their complimentary drink

Tomorrow we are playing a local bar then I have to shoot off again as I am up at 5AM the next day

Those ones really suck.
