Pre Gig Band rituals

Sign in to disble this ad
Alot of bands out there have crazy little "rituals" that they go through before every Gig.
I just thought it would be cool to hear some of yours.
If this thread has been done a billion times before, I am sorry
just please ignore.
My former band used to always pound espresso or just some really strong coffee to give us a bit of a jolt. - oh yeah and we
would always play Our Metal anthem ACDC "We salute you" just before we went on. After the Show we also had some rituals, but I will not get into that...

I always pound a beer with my drummer. Then...

Can't stop the pain train. Legal complications forbid me from saying more...

I usually indulge in a pre-2nd set toke.

I used to do a few pushups, but now one might kill me. I almost can't play if I don't wash my hands right beforehand.

Yes yes! Stretching (full body & fingers) is essential.

Must wash hands, potty break, wash hands again, stretches.

If I feel like I might be about to have an off night, I avoid sitting backstage or someplace where I can't see the audience if it's large. That's the only time I think I might get stagefright. Seeing the people at some point between empty venue and full house completely calms my nerves.

Unload the trailer, set up Pa, set up Bass rig, help drummer with his crap, take a whiz, wash hands, get drink, tune up, and play.

So....set up sit back, order tonic and lime relax onto the riser. I have a guitar player friend that paces slapping everyone on the back and repeating "we're gonna be great" over and over like a mantra, He thinks it works. Truth be told? He's a smokin' player and worked hard to be one, but what ever works eh?

A few beers and junk food does the job.

Sacrifice a goat in the parking lot.

Nah... These days my bands just arrive, set up, and play. Sometimes depending on venue we'll eat, or have a drink.
Nothing too cool or special.

I always do a jager-bomb with my singer then go sit in the corner and do some riffs to warm up.

I never toke at/before gigs. Sometimes after...

I like the stretching, deep breathing, wash hands one. I also feel like I can't play if I don't wash my hands. I dunno, they just feel gross, sticky and heavy.

Me too, if I don't wash my hands before playing I feel as if I'm disrespecting my instrument.

+1. Glad to know that others respect this tradition.

We are a trio, just before the begginning, the three of us begin to sing some lame chorus of a song of a local band that seems to have "made it" according to the yahoos that measure "success" in the national band scene, as soon as we finish the chorus we´re ready to kick some arse...

In a previous band I built up hatred towards the drummer before we would play. (Because he would transform into a needy bitch every single time.)

Does that count as a ritual?

After rehearsal, a few hours before the show, we used to watch the best clips of the "Crossroads" Festival DVD.

I'll normally have a cigarette before the show, and run around a little to get my blood pumping. That's about it

I smoke a pipe (tobacco), then we group up and beat up the rhythm guitarist.
