Haha, funny stuff that! Kind of reminds me of Spinal Tap, even though it's meant to be satirical it's actually pretty accurate...

Very funny. Some truth in it as well.

However, one should recall that not ALL prog is "unpopular", as is asserted: Rush is the 4th best selling rock band of all time.

1) Beatles
2) Rolling Stones
3) Aerosmith (and only because of the cheese they've produced since the 90's)
4) Rush

Anyhow, yeah, there was a lot of excess in the 70's, no question. Wasn't just confined to prog-rock though - disco culture, anyone?

Wow that one hurt a little. I play progressive metal and I couldn't believe how close to home that article hit. I can't wait to go inform my band of just how cliche we are.

My friend saw Focus in concert once, opening for another band. He said Hocus Pocus was the only song they did--they played it for about 40 minutes, then went off stage, then came back and played it again as an encore. Sort of the ultimate one-hit wonders.

Rush is the 4th best selling rock band?

They are my favorite band, but I had no idea they had that sort of popularity.

They seem to be regaining some popularity lately, but I have no clue how extensive that may be.

Clarification on the Rush statement

As a group, Rush possesses 24 gold records and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records. According to the RIAA, Rush's sales statistics also place them fourth behind The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith for the most consecutive gold or platinum albums by a rock band. Rush also ranks 79th in U.S. album sales with 25 million units. Although total worldwide album sales are not calculated by any single entity, as of 2004 several industry sources estimated Rush's total worldwide album sales at over 40 million units.

I cant say I am not a prog fan, but that was hilarious. Anyone who felta need to come up with a slightly and angry and entirely rational counter argument need to realize that
1: you just proved a lot of their points
2: Its "cracked" for crying out loud(like mad magazine's unpopular kid brother), why bother?

I still think a band called "the galctic destiny of the tripod" would be fantastic

Modern progressive rock is more diversified, with many offshoots of the core "progressive" motif. Progressiveness can now be attached to death metal bands (Opeth), thrash metal (Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation), orchestras (Apocalpytica, Symphony X) and even ****** metal (Rammstein).
HAHAHA.

This thing is too funny.

I listen to most of the bands that were named in the article though.
