They're actually the secret house band for the Rush Limbaugh radio show (thus, the name)...the 'progressive' tag is an inside joke. The bassist is Mike Huckabee.

Doesn't Sarah Palin sing vocals for them?

Funny, I've liked that song for years, but never knew who played (or sang) it. Totally hilarious to watch. I'm surprised the singer didn't burst into flames.

However, one should recall that not ALL prog is "unpopular", as is asserted: Rush is the 4th best selling rock band of all time.

1) Beatles
2) Rolling Stones
3) Aerosmith (and only because of the cheese they've produced since the 90's)
4) Rush

Anyhow, yeah, there was a lot of excess in the 70's, no question. Wasn't just confined to prog-rock though - disco culture, anyone?
Don't forget floyd dude... dark side was on the charts for what 3 million weeks... lol

Another great bit of prog humor:

http://www.mcsweeneys.net/2005/6/30G...Robillard.html

it's by Wayne Gladstone (a cracked.com contributor, he does "Hate by Numbers"), the first time i read it I nearly fell off my chair laughing (especially that bit about "The Trees")

I think us prog rockers have (and have to have!) a good ability to laugh at ourselves and the type of music we love so very much
