PsychoJealousCrazyScary SO's at gigs

Sign in to disble this ad
Nothing makes a great gig story like a PsychoJealousCrazyScary significant other causing a huge embarrassing scene at a gig. We've ALL got one of those stories? What's your best?

Mine: A little while ago, we played a show for a great crowd that included at little pack of honeys on a Girls Night Out. Now these girls were NOT out to hook up with ANYBODY—they were just there to have fun, laugh a lot, dance, drink, and be silly with their friends. If you've played out a lot, then you've seen plenty of these GNO groups, you know they like to play around and flirt just a little with band guys, too, but you know that's all it is: Their SOs are waiting at home, and at last call, their night of flirty fun is over.

Well this GNO group was having a great night and really digging the band. During a break, while I was walking through the club, one of them stopped me to very graciously compliment the band and make a couple requests. Two minutes later in the men's room, I got blindsided and pushed up against the wall from behind. It felt like a truck hit me, and then started drunkenly explaining the consequences of EVER talking to it's woman again...

The girl's PsychoJealousCrazyScary SO had been tailing the GNO all night, club-to-club, hiding in the shadows and watching them, (found this all out later), getting drunker and drunker, angrier and angrier, jealouser and jealouser (Yeah, I know—not a real word. Gimme a little journalistic license, okay?)

Anyway, Just as he's about to create a painful new joint for me between the elbow and the wrist, our guitarist's brother walks in (prison guard, personal trainer), and instantly takes boyfriend down with a throat-hold. Boyfriend gets thrown out, Girlfriend sends many drinks in apologies.

After gig/loadout, Girlfriend walks over to make one more apology as GNO is leaving, and Boyfriend, lurking in his car in the parking lot, goes ballistic. Parking lot takedown ensues and Guitarists Brother saves the day again. (hey, I'm a lover, not a fighter).

Poor girl probably got abused hard that night at home and often thereafter.

So, what's YOUR PsychoJealousCrazyScary SO story?

OMG, that is insane!!! That man is dangerous. I hope she broke up with him and *left*. Stalking her!!! Dear God!

My story involves an old band of my husband's. He had auditioned, but they'd already chosen another drummer. This guy was good, but his wife was a total speed freak. She was *always* jealous of him. She thought every girl at every gig was out to take him to bed. She would show up and just come unwelded, trying to attack women, or her husband.

So, they had to fire the guy and they hired my husband.

Then there was this chick who wanted to be their singer. And tambourine player. She was good at neither. The guys would have me up to sing sometimes, and she would get really angry. She would run up, drunk, and yell at me, at the whole band, at anyone who tried to get her to calm down. She was real jealous of her man, too, and would try to fight any woman who spoke with him.

She got banned from that venue, thank goodness. It was an outdoor place, and they put up what we loved to call The Drunk Chain. It was a heavy chain stretched across the front of the stage, with a sign that said "Musicians Only". If someone was too drunk to read, the chain tripped 'em up. That place also had a Drunk Tank. It was a stock tank with water in it. They'd dunk the drunk, then get him a ride home. Or a cop car, if necessary.

does this count? having the clingy, bossy wife showing up to the show and insisting that the bass player (i was guitarist in the band) leave as soon as the set's over. or putting ridiculous conditions on band practice at their house...the entire band plugs direct and rehearses through headphones, with electronic drums, for two hours at a time because she still can't stand the noise of hearing electric guitars strummed acoustically or the tapping of drumsticks on rubber pads.

in the case of practices, i used to blow my voice out just screaming my vocals, hoping to piss her off. it worked and, uh, the band broke up

I had a psychojealouscrazyscarysignificuntother.

One time we were asked to play a show with my friends father's cover band. We agreed of course. I dont even remember at this point how it started, but at some point I was accused of checking out a waitress and the ex wife went ballistic. She officially ruined the night for me, drunkenly walking away while Im trying to finish loading out. I ignored her for a while, hoping she'd cool down, but no. As soon as Im done loading out she's back in my face yelling and screaming. Totally embarassing as a group of my friends are around witnessing the events. I dont know why I didnt leave sooner, that ***** ruined almost every gig I had for nearly two years.

Another time, we're playing this cool little place called The Grog out in redondo beach. We had recently ordered some merchandise, t-shirts & 1in. pins, to sell at the show. We had left my wife and my drummers girlfriend in charge of the merch while we played. Afterwards, while moving everything to my car, the ex knocks over the merch box, spilling shirts, pins, demo cds, and my digital camera all over the floor. No biggie I tell her, and I pick everything up and put it back in the box. As she's helping me carry things to the car she happens to knock my bass over. No biggie I tell her. So over walks the drummers girlfriend to talk to my wife. Somehow she acidentally knocked over a new lighting fixture I had bought, it just tipped over and fell a few inches, no damage. No biggie I tell HER. Oh no! Wife goes crazy on ME for not getting mad at my drummers girlfriend and begins yelling at ME?! WTH?

Yeah, Im so glad I got out of that one.

Haha, I doubt its the same chick (unless you also went out with Mark Kendall's sister), but most definitely the same insecurities. I dont have a wife anymore these days, dont know if i ever will again, I may be scarred for life, but my current girlfriend is awesome! She, too, likes to point out the hotties! Looks like we both learned a good lesson!

You guys got off easy. I used to work with a dude who said his guitarist's girlfriend shot him dead onstage for picking up a waitress the night before!

Yep. Easy. We were loading into a club in DC many years ago & this chick pops outta the second story apt window across the street from us & starts layin' into this dude on the front steps, waving a pistol around for emphasis. You could tell which dude she was talkin' to because everyone else just kinda melted away from him. No panic at all. Almost like they'd seen it a time or two.

This dude was smooooth... She was lightin' him up about another squeeze & he was layin' on the love. "Aw, baby, c'mon. You know I love you..."

It worked. She slammed the window shut & he said "crazy bitch" & ambled off. We were It was actually a great gig later!

The minute anyone pushes me up against a wall for simply talking to someone else, the cops are called. Plain and simple.

This has happened to me on more than one occasion, and not just at a gig. It could be a bar, lounge, etc. Nobody should have to tolerate that **** Get his drunk ass arrested.

not so much significant others, but crazy audience members.........many years ago we played one of the more notorious main street bars....one night a fairly cute girl wanted to see me after, but another not so cute one had the same idea.......they went outside and fought it out,but the cute one lost and the other one came back to claim her prize...

The guitarist in my cover band is a wanker. I'm not. He's a talented wanker though. We have to play summer song and I hate it. Because of this he has people who worship at his feet, the Shanites we call them (his name is Shane). They all work with him. He's married but was having trouble with his wife. They're supposedly getting a divorce. So he starts getting all friendly with one of the Shanites who looks just like his wife but about 20 years younger. Swears nothing happened though. This goes on for a few weeks. One gig his wife shows up. We're all like "what the ...." "oh yeah, we're getting along fine now." Sure enough here walks in the other chick. Night goes on. Halfway through the last set one walks by the other and starts something at the bar. Our lead singer who's a female but pretty tough for one and uses a wireless mic runs to the bar while singing to break it up. Guitarist motion for us to keep going and runs over there to break it up. We stop playing for the night. The other then tells our drummer (who works with her and the guitarist) that she and her 10 friends (Shanites) who show up every show and pound alcohol won't be coming any more.

I blame him. Why do you bring in your wife and someone who obvioulsy wants to date you and you're leading her on to the same place on the same night? Wife is a total nut job who apparently is jealous of our singer and wants in our band. Over my dead freakin body.

My guitar player/singer's girlfriend is a psycho nut job. He's very business oriented and we take our cues off of him. When we go to shows we're all business, we focus on making good with the fans and the venue. She loses her mind because he's not focusing on her. She's also incredibly jealous so every time he starts to talk to anyone who's female she gets all pissy and starts a fight with him. She has a key to his house, the password to his Myspace, and apparently makes random drive by's of his house to make sure he doesn't have any other girls over. She's a nut.

our singer/guitarists girlfriend is psycho. but she prevents embarassing gigs by scaring off all other females who want to come see us(literally she bitches them out about trying to steal her boyfriend and says they "aren't allowed to go"). The ironic part is that she's cheated on him many times.

when in doubt, ask Abby:

"Dear Abby...
I think my wife is cheating on me. I am a working musician and, as you would expect, travel a lot. I have been noticing strange things happening when I get home. Her mobile phone rings and she steps outside to answer it or she says, "I'll call you back later". When I ask her who called she gets evasive. Sometimes she goes out with friends but comes home late, getting dropped off around the corner and walking the rest of the way. I once picked up the extension while she was on the phone and she got very angry.

A buddy of mine plays guitar in a band. He told me that my wife and some guy have been to his gigs. He wanted to borrow my guitar amp. That's when I got the idea to find out for myself what was really happening. I said "Sure, you can use my amp but I want to hide behind it at the gig and see if she comes into the venue and who she comes in with." He agreed.

Saturday night came and I slipped behind my Marshall JCM800 half stack to get a good view. I could feel the heat coming off the back of the amp. It was at that moment, crouching down behind the amp, that I noticed that one of the power tubes was not glowing as bright as the other 3.

Is this something I can fix myself or do need to take it to a technician?
Thanks
Very Concerned"
