Pudding Time

Sign in to disble this ad
So there I was last night, making some pudding. Got some whipped cream to put on my pudding.
Thinking to myself, "What else would go good with my pudding?"
Bananas!
So I grabbed a banana and started slicing it up to top my pudding with.
Slicing bananas, slicing bananas... slicing my finger.
GAAAH!
I sliced right through my middle finger on my left hand.
The day before a big show.
It hurts so much. Alas, the show must go on. It's my first night back with my band and this is my welcome back show.
Stupid bananas. Stupid pudding. It hurts to fret.

Anyone else have any sort of accident with your hands before a show? Did you trudge on and power through the pain?

I guess it's not as bad as the time I dislocated my shoulder 3 days before a big show. I played through that one seated in a chair the whole time.

I dislocated my index finger at the knuckle on my fretting hand playing dodgeball. Happened a few days before my first show with my new band. I grabbed the sucker, gave a little twist and *POP* right back in place. It didnt hurt too much just then, as I had a few brews in me, but the next few days... OUCH. It hurt a little while I was playing for a solid month before it started to lessen. That happened in November, and the knuckle never fully healed. It no longer hurts, but I figure it'll be a fat knuckle for ever.

Pudding is perhaps the single most underestimated member of the dangerous foods group. That's what makes it so dangerous.

Good luck with the finger man!

Goofin' around at the lake on a Thursday, I sliced the pad of the index finger on my plucking hand, and had a weekend booked. I sprayed it with liquid bandage, superglued it and wrapped it with medical tape. Seemed to work ok, but it was real sore. First show on Friday, the tape comes off during the middle of the second tune, and by the end of the tune I'm bleeding all over the strings. Kept cleaning it up, but eventually it stopped bleeding. The next night the finger has been throbbing all day, and I tape it again, but basically the same sequence of events as the night before.

Bad place to cut yourself, even without playing bass.

I sliced the tip of my index finger off once, long time ago, but not before a gig. Hope it heals quickly.

Watch out for bagels, too, a lot of people injure themselves cutting bagels.

PERFECT! Because this is a metal band that I'm playing with.
The band after us is doing a tribute to DIO. What a bloody night it'll be.

I cringe at the thought of what everyone has gone through. I avoid many activities in order to prevent finger damage around shows. Maybe I'm paranoid. Maybe I'll have to avoid pudding now. And bagels. And any other food that is not in the form of bite sized pieces.

Blues and roots rock band, and A positive, sorry.

I had to change the strings and take off the pickguard to clean it up after that weekend, what a mess.

Take care of your hands, they are very useful...

EDIT: I like pudding...

I was playing a show on Valentine's Day. Before the show, I bought my wife some roses. I was cutting the stems and cut the tip of my index finger on my fret hand. After I stopped the bleeding. I applied liquid band aid and then put a regular band aid over it. I had to change the band aid a couple of times during the show but managed to play.

As a result of a metal shop accident, Tony Iommi cut the fingers tips off his right middle & ring fingers. He ended up with a successful career.

Django Reinhardt played jazz guitar with only 2 fingers.

What more can I say?

(He cut his finger in the 90's and had to cancel a whole tour)

Nothing involving blood or broken bones, but I hit my "funny bone" in my left elbow right before a gig once, and it hurt like hell all night.

One time I was in graphic design class and took a chunk out of my middle finger on my fretting hand while making an architectural model with a stanley/box cutter knife. Needless to say, that took architecture of my, then, prospective careers.
