Racing Anyone?

This has been a while ago but, its a fun story to share.

We played a show at a County Fair a few years ago. We were to set up on this flatbed near the beer tent along the fence next to a dirt track. They booked us on the night of the mud drags and we were on the slow down end of a very dry track... after scrambling to cover the sound board and amps after the first run, we still waited on our guitarist. Reaching the soundcheck point the very intoxicated guys standing on the trailer with us watching the races asked where the last member was.
At this same time, pointing at the track, my girlfriend says, "Isn't that him?"
Sure enough, there he was driving... He had turned on the wrong side of the fence and was going against the grain of the drag racing. He did not stop to turn around... he drove all the way down, through the middle of the action in front of the grandstands to be greeted by the screaming event organizer and the county police waiting. They then escorted him with a convoy of golf carts back through the fairgrounds.
Needless to say, we were all still holding our stomachs laughing when he got back around.

Oh Man, the minute I saw this sentence I knew there was trouble comin'

Even if they weren't running on the oval, there was bound to be enough dust and other flying objects around to where I would've passed on this gig unless we could be back in the pits or somewhere else away from the track itself

Even a drag race can go spectacularly bad every once in a while....

Oh, how I wish I had video!... Sadly it has not graced youtube.
Different events and different bands happened every night, they had just told us it was at the beer pavilion and it was luck of the draw that we got mud drag night. When I scouted the setup area the trailer wasn't there, I thought we'd at least be under the pavilion which was 50ft away from the fence.
