I watched a covers band at my local last weekend, great musicians and a setlist to match, they put on quite a show.
However, my attention was drawn more to the ingenious set-up that their four-stringer employed in order to quench his thirst during the show:
Now, we all know that the bass player is generally the innovative and resourceful one in any band but I did think that there might be a flaw in his plan - that bassists also drink like fish and thus the beer holder might be redundant after no time at all.
Our man certainly looked to be in danger of having such a problem, polishing off his first pint within three or four songs.
Did he panic?
Did he hell, he simply turned around between tracks and grabbed the second pint he had hidden behind his rig.
As soon as that was guzzled, he grabbed a third!
For the record, the band went by the name Johnny Seven. |

| | | | Drink on top of amp is not a great idea....... I've seen wayyy more spilled drinks than I care to remember. (should see what coffee does to grill cloth). Heck I won't even let anyone put a closed bottled drink on my amp!
Guitar center sells drink holders for microphone stands..... $15 and viola! Safe spot! Well, assuming you don't have a pedal board positioned right under neath where the condensation is dripping....
Guess I'm a little more conservative.......I'd stick that off to the side versus right in front of the band..unless "alcoholic" is the image you're after.
However.......the fan? Front and Center. Fans rock!

Heck I won't even let anyone put a closed bottled drink on my amp! | Drinks and bass rigs at high volume especially don't get along. I had a few drinks bounce off my rig years ago before I quit putting them there. The last straw, as it were, was a freshly opened bottle of beer. I turned around early in that set to see that bottle dancing with the low end vibrations, with about half of the beer already in a foam cascade all over the amp and cabinet.
It was a nice visual effect, and fortunately nothing was permanently damaged. Still, I *was* looking forward to that beer (a Canadian Bradors, IIRC). More to the point, that was a vivid enough image of disaster narrowly dodged that I haven't set (or allowed) a drink on my rig since.

BTW, if you've never had a beer vibrate off your amp, you need to turn up.

Its what you do with that drink that seperates the pros from the drunk-guys-who-knock-over-the-mic-stand.
