I think I need to put this one on my list of Rock Star Moments!
We played the Republic of Texas Biker Rally at 11 a.m. yesterday morning. We were the opening band of the day on the Paradise Bar stage.
We had a good show, in spite of the high heat and humidity, and drew a fair little crowd, which ain't bad for 11 a.m. Wasn't my *best* show, because the sweat made my fingers slip on the strings, but we felt like we did pretty well, all things considered.
So, the day goes on, and we're in the crowd for the Molly Hatchet show at 10 p.m. I decided to go down to the front. I love Molly Hatchet...they were my very first rock show, back in '79...and I wanted a closer look.
I'm enjoying the band, all by myself in the crowd, and this guy looks at me and yells, "Hey!!! You're that bad-a$$ bassist!!! Hey, guys, here's that awesome bass chick we saw this morning!" "Dude, you're kidding! I wanna meet her!" "Honey, hey, this is that girl we saw this morning! Come here, we're going to meet her!"
So they gathered 'round, got my name, asked questions about the band, drenched me in compliments, and I handed out a bunch of cards and expressed my thanks. Then they went into the crowd to tell people about the band and my playing!
WOW!!! In a crowd of thousands of people, in the dark, during a concert played by professional rock veterans, I, the bassist for a little local band from the other side of The Chicken Wire Curtain that no one knows outside of our general area, was recognized by fans for my playing. Incredible!!! I could see the show much better after that, because I was floating a foot off the ground! LOL!
Never in a million years did I ever even think that something like that would ever happen. Never even crossed my mind. Total shock. A very pleasant shock!!!
Too cool to just keep it bottled up...just had to share that.

Congrats, nothing beats that feeling.
It's even better IMHO, than the compliments recieved from the musicians, no matter how famous they are. It's more or less expected behaviour, if not required .
The positive feedback from the crowd always makes my day.
Regards.

I once had a speeding ticket thrown out by a judge cause' the bailiff (who I did not know or recognize) was a fan and stood up for me when I approached the bench, but your story is far better and more exciting!
Keep up the great work |
