Rip-off promoters

I got this gig with a cover band. Played to about 50 people, supposedly to be all fans.

When show was over, promoter says we have to pay up to cover his share.

Band leader says his share was covered up to the 10th fan. That he should be paying the band for the 40 fans.

Blabla arguing with that guy.

Promoter didn't want to pay up, saying he didn't see 50 people only 9.

Promoters are so full of bs.

At the end, this guy didn't pay, and took off with the proceedings of 40 fans

We had a similar issue a few months back, we walked away with £50 out of an agreed £300 for a show. Needless to say we're not working with the promoter again.

Rule 1: get it in writing, or no gig
Rule 2: bring a camera or mobile, take a snapshot to prove attendance.

No contract no gig!

Also, it's good to have your own person at the door counting heads. Preferably someone credible.

Why do bands forget that they can double as a small street gang if the need arises?

snap a few pics with a camera so you have proof that there were 50 people.

And like other people say, you can always beat him up. FSU bands would have his skull cracked before he could finish the sentence.
