Rockin' house jam!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
My husband had been at work for about 30 minutes on Saturday morning, when he called me and said, "Call everybody...let's have a jam party tonight!"

Well...alrighty then!!!!

Called my guitarist neighbor. Called my other best girlfriend, which amounts to calling "everybody", because she's just awesome at that. She even made stops on the way to our place, getting people to come. Pot luck...everyone had to bring some food or some drink or a bag of ice.

We had two drummers (counting hubby), three guitarists, two singers, and me on bass. We were supposed to have two other bassists, including a good buddy who plays washtub like a jazz man. (Truly magnificent...we intertwine the two bass lines...magestic.) But they didn't show up.

Played everything we love to play and never get to. Sang whether we knew what we were doing or not. (I did War Pigs! Couldn't remember all the lyrics, so made some up.) We had turkey and dumplings and cherry dump cake and queso and veggie trays and beer and bourbon and Tuaca.

HoooooooLaWheeeee, what a party!

On the way to shaping up that 2nd band project...

Yep. We're going to do this more often. Whether it becomes a band or not, no matter. Its a blast, anyway.

I hope you invited that Mexican guitarist that sat in with you a week or so ago. You made it sound like he might have some potential as part of the meal-ticket band you need.

And what the heck is tuaca? Sorry, I'm from Minnesota, so not familiar with (what I'm assuming is) regional dishes.

Dude, Here is the best cherry dump cake recipe:
Ingredients-2 cans water packed cherries (not cherry pie filling)
3/4 cup sugar
1 Duncan Heinz yellow cake mix
2 sticks (1 cup) real butter. Land-O-Lakes is the best but also high dollar, any real butter will do.

In a regular size baking pan, dump the 2 cans of water packed cherries and spread them evenly(one layer).
Sprinkle the sugar evenly over the cherries.
Carefully sprinkle the yellow cake mix over the top of the cherries, evenly covering the cherries.
Melt the 2 sticks of real butter and carefully pour the butter evenly over the top of the cake mix making sure to cover all the dry mix with a thin layer of butter. With a spoon make sure all the dry spots are covered with the butter, (This takes a little patience).
Bake at 350 degrees for 64 minutes. (This will make it crunchy on top).

If you like sweet stuff you can use cherry pie filling or 2 cups of sugar with the water packed cherries, but this will be extremely sweet. The secret to the tart taste is using the water packed cherries so you can use whatever amount of sugar you like.
Voila! Best desert in town and when the party's over all you gotta do is wash the pan cause there won't be any left over!

do you drain the can first? or is the water part of the recipe?

this sounds awfully like an alternate to Pineapple upside-down cake... where you lay the pineapple rings out first under the mix and turn it over to serve after baking it...

Sounds like fun - our band has done a couple BBQs along the same lines. Nothing like tossin back a few cold ones in the warm summer sun, food cookin on the grill with all the friends and kids running around. Going full steam with the band.

Good times.

No, don't drain the cherries. Just dump them in the pan with the water and spread them evenly. They will cover the bottom of a regular size cake pan.

Yeah, he was supposed to arrive with the other bassist...they're the guys that didn't show up.

We're going to the local Wednesday jam tonight...hopefully, he'll be there. We want to get another jam up, soon, and we'd sure like him there!

Had an interesting conversation with my drummer yesterday. He wants to start jamming with another guitarist, since our singer has gone back to school and has no time for playing. He assures me that he wants to play, and wants to keep working with me, but that we need something else besides this band going, to keep our chops up.

Verrrrrrrry inter-es-ting!

Tuaca's a liqueur. Tastes kinda like cream soda. Myself, I kept to the bourbon. Those sweet drinks make me ill if I'm feeling warm, and I was sweating up a storm, from playing hard.

They killed that tuaca bottle though! Man-alive!

Yep! Also, you don't have yellow cake mix, you can use a couple cups of Bisquick. If you use Bisquick, add some sugar and cinnamon over the top of the dry stuff, then pour over it some milk and two eggs you've whisked real hard, then some more sugar and cinnamon.

You're right about there not being any left! I made a doubled recipie, and that big ol' Pyrex pan was totally empty by night's end. Man, they decimated it!

The best! I love a good jam party. We'll be having plenty more, for sure.

Its possible! My practice rig stays set up in the jam room, we have a set of drums perpetually set up, and our guitarist neighbor provides half the PA. We'd have our very own Bass Test Dummy Band, ready for the use and abuse of Texas TBers!
