Rocking w/ the Youngen's

So I've been playing in a couple of cover bands. One is fairly active, starting to get gigs. But the other one hasn't got off the ground. We lost our lead guitarist/lead male singer a few months ago, and haven't been able find a replacement. I think we're in that dead space where we are better than the players that want to play with us, but not good enough for the more accomplished musicians.

Anyway, seeing the writing on the wall, I was cruising Craigslist to see what was out there. I auditioned with a group last night, and it went pretty well. We sounded good, playing a mix of old and new rock/pop (Beatles, Sublime, John Mayer, Oasis....). But I wasn't too sure if I would get the gig, because I'm 20 years older than everyone else. I'm 48, and the oldest of the other guys is 30, the other two probably 25 or so. This isn't a problem with me, but you never know.

So I got the email today, and they want me to join This will be cool for a few reasons
  • They have a higher level of muscianship (one guy has a music degree), which will help push my playing
They have a better, fresher, and more rocking setlist
We practice about 5 minutes from my house, and run everything through the PA. I can ride my bike to practice

Anyway, it should be fun playing with these guys. It is a start-up band, so hopefully we get up to speed and gigging soon.

Got to love when it all comes together, I HATE seeing these ad's where "if over 30 don't reply" crap.
As far as good guitar players...god I LOVE it. Mine is a guitar teacher, so I am on my toes all the time....takes the laziness out of me
plus the young guys have the hot young girls hanging with them
God I'm such a perv.

Yeah, I think our first gigs (hopefully in a month or so) should be interesting. Being happily married, I'll just blend into the background and enjoy the view
