Rogue amp saves the day?

Sign in to disble this ad
Well, a couple of days ago I posted a thread in the amps section telling how my Peavey Mark VIII blew the day before a huge gig was coming up and asking for help as to how I could fix it.

That can be seen here: Please help, I have a big problem!

Well anyway, I was never able to get a loaner or even rent one, so I was forced to use my 120 watt Rogue RB-120BT combo. But I don't particularly like the 15 inch cab connected to it, so I ripped out the head peice. Now the cabs I use along side my Peavey Mark VIII are an Avatar 212 Neo and Avatar 210 Neo, but they are both 4 ohms and this Rogue has a 4 ohm minimum, so I went with just my 212.

When I resolved to do this I was pretty disappointed because I was almost certain I wouldn't be heard and way overpowered by my very loud metal band, but I was very wrong. When we all set up, I got the sound tech to mic me through the PA and not only was I at the perfect volume, but to my surprise my makeshift rogue head sounded way better than my Peavey Mark VIII ever has. And like in all fairy tales it had a happy ending, because we were invited to come back for melt your face friday and everything went perfectly.

So to the Nay-Sayer to Rogue in the thread I posted asking for help,

looks like you were wrong.

Wonder if my Heathkit TA-17 would save the day if my Bassman 400 craps out? :-D

Update: Turns out my Peavey is completely fried and the local music store couldn't fix it. They said I would have to send it to Peavey, but it's a 25 year old amp, so I think it's time for retirement. Not to mention, I paid $230 for it and it would probably cost that much or more to fix it.

I had a similar experience. Amp blows at practice, outdoor gig next day. I had a Behringer BX 600 I used for practice, but had to call it up to the bigs for a day. I made it through. Not something I would want to do regularly, but it saved the day.

Nice story even tho I'm a hardcore Peavey fan.

What kinda puzzled me is why yah had to rip the head piece off A lot of Combos have a output jack in the back that lets it plug into other speakers instead?

I had an GK800RB amp blow one day, and we had a gig coming up. I took it down to have it fixed, but I had to get another in time for the gig - I actually bought a GK400RB, used it for the gig, then returned it, and bought a second GK800RB with the credit.

Then I had two of them for years after that without any problems.

I didn't want to lug about the heavy 15" speaker it was attached to.
