As an ancient newcomer (!) and first poster, I can’t begin to tell you folks about the expansion of my awareness of talent, tools and toys brought about by this vibrant group. Thanks to you all.
After seeing the amazing spectrum of G.A.S. induced delights, I can’t help but think there is a set of unofficial rules and regs to describe (not cure, please) the malady. I’ve gleaned a few over the years which might spark some pithy comments on this self-examination and the final overwhelming knee-buckling that takes us down:
1.) The pain of purchase soon dissipates
2.) It’s far easier to beg forgiveness than ask for permission.
Surely you acquisition pros (you know who you are) can come up with some more guidance......

12) THEN: my old cabinet only does 200 watts at 4 Ohms and this head does 500 watts at 4 Ohms. If I really want to hear how it's supposed to sound, I need a 500 watt cabinet.
13) then when you buy a cabinet that does 500 watts at 8 Ohms, you get to buy another new head.
14) then you need a new cab that has Neo speakers because your new/old deltas are just too heavy!
