San Diego Bound!

Well, tomorrow I travel the 368 miles from Fresno to San Diego Ca., to play with my forever band RareForm!!!! For a change, I've packed the car the night before, so I can just slide into the drivers seat and go on my merry way the 368 miles. it takes anywhere from six to nine hours, depending on the traffic, and which route I decide to take through Southern California.

The gig is at the Beachcomber in Mission beach, on Saturday night. We play from 7:30 to 11. The band is making me sing "Sweet Child-O-Mine" a song I dislike immensely. But... In return, I am demanding that I get to play and sing Green Day's "Welcome to Paradise"! It will be my show-off song... if I manage to pull it off. Never sang it and played it on stage before. Should be a fun night regardless.

That's awesome! I love seeing bands make stuff like this happen! Very motivating

Good luck on the drive!!!

I forgot to mention that the rest of the band lives in San Diego. I moved to Fresno some 14 years ago, and yet, we're still a band. Why am I still the bass player????? I think either they can't find a bass player who can sing both the Police and "Highway To Hell"., or they're just too damned lazy to find another one!!!!!

Oh I may just have to video this Sweet Child of Mine rendition if I can make it. I'll be the guy in the front row with the camera....eating lemons.

During a battle of the bands that got messy, we had our fans stand in front of our competition while fake yawning, that whole contagious thing actually works.

You know, there are probably some Brits (well, me anyway) who would actually pay to accompany you on this trip and see some 'real' America instead of all the usual tourist tat. It could work the other way too - any Yanks in the UK could travel with me on Monday from Wales (near Tom Jones' home town) to Hungerford to repair some industrial control equipment. Tuesday we go to Peterborough. Mmmmm...tasty. This could be the start of something big. International Bass Players Real Lives Exchange.

on the coast it's sunny and low 70s by day and by night low 50s, inland warmer. That's how it will be tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after and....

1) It will be in the low 60s - but if you're indoors, it won't be a thang. Watch out for parking issues in PB - it gets JAMMED up... but the talent - hoo boy, the talent... makes it all worth it.

And yeah, Pizza Port rocks. Any person who has never been to SD who asks me where to go to get a real "locals" meal, that's one of the places I send them. 100% SD vibe.

That and Las Olas... Yumm... Shrimp burritos...

Just rolled back into Fresno from San Diego. The gig was smashing! A packed crowd! The Beachcomber hold I think 150 by law, but I'm certain the crowd was larger than that. Oh, and 6jase5 and his wife did indeed show up. Great guy.... but he's not 6'5". He's more like 7'2".

Will write more about the gig tomorrow. Right now I'm exhausted from the drive and need to recoup.

WAAAAAA Mission Beach! I grew up in PB, but haven't been back since 2002. I am so totally jealous! The Beachcomber is very near where I once lived for a year (on Bayside Lane past Belmont Park). Do you have pix???

Do they still have that 5' X 20' "stage"? I've played there a few times, but not recently.

There was no stage there. They gave us the option, but we declined. Unless they are a good size, large, being on risers is more trouble than it's worth.

The bar is no longer out in the middle of the room and is now attached to the wall. Makes for better dancing.

PS. Chris over at the Bass Store said "hi" to you.
