**Begin long backstory, scroll down for pics**
So Saturday was our last gig of the year as well as our last gig before we hit the studio so I wanted to do something special. It's a week before Christmas so screw it...I decided to be Santa!
The hardest thing was finding the damn suit! I checked Party City, Harrows, and a bunch of ma & pa party stores...nobody even carried them! A friend of mine texts me that they're selling them at Jo Ann Fabric (Kinda arts & craftsy like Michaels, but it's mostly fabrics and stuffing for pillows). I get there and ask the girl at the counter (who had the CUTEST eyes) where they were. For some reason she laughed as she pointed me to aisle 3. I find their last one, with a $15 price tag! It was made out of felt and looked more like a red and white karate gi. The hate was 8 sizes too small and the beard was just a bunch of fluff with an elastic band. Didn't even have pockets! Now I know why she laughed. When she rang me up it was only $6!
**End long backstory**
I show up to the gig which is at this place called Lulu's in a town called Port Jefferson, all around awesome place: $7 cover, near a bunch of other bars, great sound, and Lulu is this really old Scandinavian lady with big, fake, awesome knockers, I love hugging her. It's really busy this weekend and as soon as I step out of my car it's "HONKHONKHONKHONK SANTAAAAA!" left and right.
The show started at 8 with 1/2 hour sets and 15 minute setups between. We were on at 8:45 and for a long time the 8:00PM slot was open because noone wanted to open, despite this being a show being sponsored by our record label, Krank amps, and a bunch of metal promotion companies. I asked my friend if his band wanted to open and they were all about it. It was a good call on their part because, as all shows go, the show ran late and they went on at 8:30 when there were more people. We hit the stage around 9:15.
Here's some pics:
There's also some video on people's facebooks, let me know if they don't work:

My only gripe about the show was the sound guy, he told me to turn down during soundcheck and I couldn't hear myself through anything. I don't know why sound guys hate bassists so much, I should have turned up mid set. We got a great reaction from the crowd, what's funny is we drew a few people at the time. By the time the show was over, we drew a huge crowd! Soooo many people showed up late despite the fact we advertised the crap outta the show and our 8:45 time slot. Oh well.
After the set we're loading up the trailer, which is a few stores
downhill. I have the guitar player's head/cab (he was too busy talking to a pair of boobs) and one of the old ass casters gets a nasty case of wheel bite. The head is a really heavy, all tube, 1970's Ampeg which not only knocks me over, but falls on my chest...corner first. I felt bad, he got it fixed no more than 2 weeks ago.
Aaaand the funniest part of the night. There was an Emcee for the show named Radio Jay, and he was DRUNK! After the band is done setting up and sound checking he would introduce them then they play. He bought one of our shirts halfway through the show and was wearing on stage introducing one of the later bands. I yelled to him "Hey nice shirt!" and he proceeded to go "GIVE IT UP FOR KILLJOY!" everyone cheered and started to
walk off the stage. The band that was about to play just started looking at each other like "***?" so I yelled "Dude, we played already!" and he reintroduced the band...who were pretty awesome actually.
I got a $700 Christmas bonus so for the rest of the night I was very friendly at the bar with everyone, especially myself. Great night, save for my bruised ribs, crappy soundguy, and getting called in to work the next day.
