Secret Service gives me &%$# !!!

Today I played a fund raiser for a person running for President. I don't want to get political, but let's just say the Secret Service was there. I was told to get there at 4PM. I show up at 3:45 and get in the line to get in. This was after carrying my gig bag and pedal board 1/4 mile plus. (parking sucked) So I tell the people at the door I'm with the band and they tell me that the band is already playing. I say I'm with the second act and I'm told there isn't one. Now I know the rest of my band is already inside, because they called me and told me they just got their picture taken with the VIP. So I stand at the door for 35min while they check things out. As you can imagine, by this time I'm pissed. No make that extremely pissed. A woman then walks up to me and tells me that she checked it out and I'm supposed to go bring my stuff to the band room. (dressing room) I half heartedly say thanks and make my way through a wall of people to try to get to the stage area. I'm 10ft away and a SS agent stops me and asks where I am going. I say to the dressing room and he says no your not, you have to wait. He then tells me with a smirk "Next time why don't you get yourself here on time" Finally I have reached my boiling point and reply, "What is your problem, and why are you giving me %$&@!!!!!!!" I say to myself I've had enough and make my way back towards the door to leave. The woman that was in charge stops me and pleads with me to stay. By this time my band is on stage and I'm in the back of the room with no way to get up there. Reluctantly I give it another shot and try the other side of the room. After 10 min, I'm up there. Just then the VIP is escorted out the back door and the remaining 600 people leave out the front. We play 5 tunes to a handful of people and call it a night. Was this just a bad dream??????

They have a file on you now, bud. Believe it. You better watch yourself from here on out. See that sedan with the shaded windows, parked across the street? Sshh, you didn't hear it from me!

I've dealt with the Secret Service a lot as a sound engineer. Most of them are decent folks, but as with any law enforcement agency there are certainly a few power-tripping morons. Sounds like you had the latter, and they are a royal pain in the butt when they have that amount of power.

I love the Secret Service. The FBI too. And the CIA. Did I mention the DEA. I love them all. All of them. Can you guys see how much I love you?

Now quit watching my damn house.

I'd have to think that either you caught someone on a bad day, or (for some reason) you got on their bad side... I've done a few shows where the Secret Service was working, and I've never had anything like you're describing happen to me or any of the other folks I was playing with.

Umm, I should make one other suggestion - be polite to people carrying guns. It doesn't matter whether they're right or wrong (and really, it doesn't matter if they're law enforcement, private security, or deranged bikers or rap singers) - if they're armed, be nice to them.

All that love is for nothing if you don't love the IRS.

Yeah, political stuff can be a nightmare. I did gig once where not only did we have to all pass background checks, but once we arrived on site I had to load all the equipment into a pile outside the loading dock (I was also providing FOH and monitors as well as a modest backline) and let the bomb dogs have a go at it. It all went well as I allowed plenty of time for all the unforseen delays. After all it takes forever to get your tax refund, why should this be any different?

Doubt it highly. Hell they didn't even know who I was. Without going into detail, the security there sucked in my opinion. Come to find out, the reason everyone else got in so easy, was they walked in the back stage entrance. If you knew who the VIP was, well, let's just say I would have expected security to be WAY, WAY tighter.

Having a license to carry does not give you license to be an asshat.

Did they confiscate your sense of humor, too? I believe that post was probably a joke.

I'm going to guess . . . http://www.democratandchronicle.com/...0338/1002/NEWS

As part of my prior military life, I used to work with SS on almost a daily basis.

No, it doesn't. But - it doesn't matter who's right or wrong when you're the one who's bleeding....

I would probably have said something extremely dumb that would have gotten me tackled. Sounds like you did the only thing you could do.

Ahhhh, another facet of law enforcement at it's finest.

People on a power trip make me want to puke, and speaking solely about the area I live in, that's essentially every douchebag that wears a uniform.
