So I went to the Radiohead show on Mother's Day at Nissan Pavilion in Bristow VA. On the radio on the way in a local DJ talked about the flooding and said if anyone was going "you're in for an adventure." He wasn't kidding. It was absolutely mind blowingly amazing, and OMFG WET! If you're not from the DC area, there were massive rains all day, several roads and 1 of the 2 ways into Nissan Pavilion were flooded and/or closed, and there were sheets of frigid rain (it was about 45 degrees) coming down the entire concert. I have never subjected myself to such horrendous weather conditions for anything, but I did it for Radiohead! In retrospect, I'm finding it hard to think of any other band I would do this for.
Here's a pic I found of the stage, I can't even describe how cool it was. Hundreds of LED shingles were hanging down from the roof doing all kinds of crazy neon light effects. Never seen anything like it. This picture is cool but live it was way cooler:
Fortunately me and my gf picked up some $10 rain suits at target before we left. We left early for the show but still ended up missing the opening band and the first couple songs of Radiohead. Apparently we were lucky to even get in, as I've read stories that quite a few people were left in a massive traffic jam outside the parking lot for 3 hours before eventually being turned away. I've heard people were abandoning cars and footing it up the hill to the pavillion. At the show we saw quite a few people out on the lawn with no umbrellas or rain gear and I can only imagine how bad that sucked.. Even with the rain suits we ended up grabbing a big sheet of plastic that was laying on the hill and using it as a shield.
Awesome show, Paranoid Android and Myxomatosis were especially sweet. Anyone else crazy enough to be at this show?
