here in this part of the world fenders are hard to find and very overpriced, heck any good instrument is.
now i've been playing bass for about 4 years and i've got this beloved squier jazz. its been a while. i've been playing hard, been playing gigs, making it up the ladder in the circuit here. i've been saving up but never've been able to buy a nice pro bass and then yesterday

am chatting with this friend of mine and she suddenly goes like
she: "teach me how to play bass, would ya?"
me: ok, you have a bass?
she: yea i have a fender
me: what!? are you sure? is it a real fender?
she: yep it is. its an old one
me: (curious) wow! you have any pictures
she: no, you can check it out

i feel so weird (and bad) she's got this bass since dunno when, she never bothered to play it or anything. doesnt care for it and here i am itching to just get my hands on it to even try it for a short while. meh

maybe you can trade basses in exchange for lessons. that way you both win.

Be sure to let us know when you find out what is is!

Sometimes, an item is very used and beat up, so some consider it "old".

It's probably like a super used, MIM Fender Jazz. I doubt you're going to find a 60's J-Bass when you go to her house.

In general, I'm betting stuff like this is more common than we ever hear about. I bet there's lots of (non-musical) people out there that have old and valuable guitars and basses that were left to them by grandparents or even dad and mom, that they just don't use and only hanging onto it because it was "pappas" guitar.

15yrs ago I was at a friends house, and stumbled across a silver 1920's saxophone (yes I'm a sax player too). His mom had it for years, but no one in that family played any horns. She gave it to me, but I still need to fix a couple of keyes on it.

here in India you might find Indian instruments but hardly ever any basses, guitars, etc
