Exclamation Shipping gear with Signature Required

Sign in to disble this ad
Long story short...sold a bass on Evilbay. I stated in my description...Shipped via FedEx, insured, signature required.

Sent buyer the shipping info. Buyer asked if I can change status to no signature required. I politely replied that I'm not comfortable doing that b\c the bass could get lost or stolen and we'd both be SOL.

Does anyone here ship music gear without a sig req?? The bass was only $300 but I still wanted to make sure he or someone provided written proof of delivery.

I can't imagine anyone shipping anything of value without requiring proof of delivery via sig or otherwise.

Edited to add: It's simply that by the time he gets home from work FedEx will have come and gone. I've experienced that first hand but to my surprise FedEx showed up on the 3rd delivery at 7pm and I was home to sign and receive it. Maybe I'll try to arrange and have it shipped 'after hours'.

That would make me very suspicious.

or the buyer isn't generally home when FedEx shows up and so can't sign (which is why i usually ship to the Office)

I will suggest it to the buyer most of the time, and go with whatever answer he/she gives me. Sometimes people would prefer to not have to sit and wait on gear - so I leave it up to them. I don't mind either way.

That's considerate of you, but what happens if the package gets lost or stolen? The sender has to refund payment and can't file a claim against the shipper.

you can't protect yourself from a paypal or cc chargeback if there is no signature.

Two options:

Ship it sig required to a place where there's going to be someone to sign for them. If they aren't home, they probably work. Most employers are pretty tolerant about personal deliveries at the workplace. They'll get it the first attempt, you'll get your signature, all is well.

Or

They can pick it up from the hub/warehouse after delivery hours and sign for it there. Most major shippers will allow them to have it put on will call.

Don't allow yourself to be put at risk by not getting a signature for your item if you're concerned about loss.

This is actually kind of interesting, as far as I know at my work (DHL) if you put insurance on something, I believe you cannot lead it NSR, hmm will check when I get back to work on Tuesday.
