I recently purchased a nice SWR rig and told my wife that if she wanted something, I would buy it for her. This was just to keep her from complaining about my costly purchase for self.
Now here is what she wants. A freaking Chinchilla! OMG
Anyone else have stories like that? Suggestions?

Hahaha, oh wow, I actually thought the black dot on his head was his left eye.

I don't have any great advice, but if she really wants one, why not just give it to her, she'll take care of it herself right?

This is a no brainer, dude. Alembicplayer is 100% right on this one. Stop worrying and get her the rat with great enthusiasm. I could have been a lot worse (or may actually be) - are you sure that she didn't mean a chinchilla coat?

You are all right. I'm on my way. I'll post the pics of the new family member when I get back. Maybe I'll pose it on top of the SWR rig. LOL

They happen to be nice animals that make nice pets. Way better than hamsters....you may like the little guy. They have the softest nicest fur on earth. Give him a chance...and be gentle...be happy she didn't want jewelry, it's way more expensive and useless.

Hi.

^^^Actually the first thing that crossed my mind too.

And HOW did You think I'm going to wear THAT????

Kidding aside, rats are cool, providing that she'll take care of it and most importantly keeps it occupied. They sure do get bored easily and need constant activities.

A friend of mine once some 30 years ago had a pair and as they knew that those lil' critters need A LOT of room they built a 3 cubic meter cage out of a chicken net with a bit smaller holes than normally. Those two were out of the cage in less than a minute. Below all that fur they're tiny and IIRC they're like almost all rodents, their skulls flex.

My ex-GF bred guinea pigs for shows and the number of them multiplies rather fast .

Regards
Sam

yea my friend's also basically has its own fortress which has taken over his dining room, they do require the means to keep themselves occupied.

Thanks for the skinny rat comment. I told her that she might find that it is mostly fur when she picks it up and she will feel a skinny little rat under all that. She said if it feels like that she won't buy it. muah hahaha... I'm evil!

As has been said - better paying for a living chincilla, habitats, food, etc. than buying a chincilla coat...Pat

I TOTALLY feel ya pain! I wanted a Kubicki which does NOT stink the whole house up, is NOT frighteningly ugly, and does NOT randomly destroy valuable furniture. She wanted a hairless cat, which does all the above. To extreme measures...

Fast forwarding to 2 hours later.
We went to lunch, the ATM, Petco.
Found 3 little furry varments. 2 gray and one black.
They had a picture of the light gray ones on top of the cage that said on sale 129.00.
We picked one of the lighter color ones.
I'm one to do things right so I bought the biggest damn cage they had in the store 169.00. Food, chew thing, bedding, etc...... $$cha-ching-chilla$$
Got to the register and they said no, the gray ones are on sale. You have a "fancy" one. Note that the one they were calling gray was black and nipped at us when we put our fingers in the cage. I spoke out loud to other customers and one store associate showing them the picture of a gray chin and the sale price. I said "am I right here saying that I should be paying the 129 and not the 179? Everyone immediately said yes.
I spoke with one of the managers and she said they didn't have a picture of the so called gray one so they used that one. They could refund my total amount if I liked but would not give me that little @#$%@% at that price. I left feeling screwed.
Anyway, I typically don't rant but I had to throw that out so I wouldn't stew over it for the rest of the day. I have practice to do and a new guitar player to meet up with.
Wife is very happy and I'm glad I took your advice and did this for her.
As promised, here is a picture of what I basically traded for my new SWR rig.
SWR Rig from Craigslist = 1050.00
Chinchilla and supplies from Petco = 420.00
Happy wife = Priceless!!!
