I play in a band with two guitarists - they both use very similar set-ups - a multifunction effects pedal plus one or two single pedals and both use stereo modelling amps with two channels. A conservative estimate would be that they each have at least 50 knobs and switches to contend with. Counting the ones on my bass, DI box and head my knob/switch count is less than 15 but I've always liked the Orange-type approach emphasizing a good basic tone with minimal numbers of knobs. I've seen pictures on this very forum of bass players floor-pedal boards that seem to have a footprint of at least a square yard and enough cables to hang yourself. Does any amp system really need to be this complicated or is it the never-ending search for tone?
