Signature stage moves?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm not sure if this belongs here or in gig management, but let the mods move it as they see fit...

Anyway, just wondering if anyone has any movements they do that they get in the habit of doing regularly at gigs.

I somehow got into the habit years ago of giving a quick little salute type deal at the end of a song. Nothing over the top, just a quick little thank you to the audience for listening, and a good way to let 'em know the song's complete. Seems helpful if you're playing originals, since a lot of your crowd won't know your material and won't know a pause or breakdown from an ending.

I can't say I've ever seen anyone else do it regularly, but there must be similar type of movements, choreography, audience interactions that others on here might do regularly.

Please feel free to share 'em.

haha my band likes to do a little breakdown before our more "intense" song. last show we couldn't do it because we were running out of time..so we had to segue into it after our cover of radio by rancid.

also i pretty much have my lips pursed the whole show except for when i do backing vocals.

I played for years with a drummer who when he screwed up would stare dirty looks at someone else in the band.

I'd be happy to sign an autograph on stage, does that count as a signature move?

Rip off John Myung. It's easy. Just do the lean back and the lean forward and nod your head every now and again. Then, once or twice a gig, play a super fast passage with your hair in front of one of your eyes.

Simple moves for the win.

My signature move is to stare at the frets and make sure I'm hitting the right notes.

Grow your hair long and headbang. Sometimes there are several of my best female friends in the audience, and I go to them and french kiss them all - makes me look super cool having all those chicks around
And smile, thats important to.

Rocket guitar/bass is always a good move.

You hold the instrument up by the neck and strum it furiously.

I do the Jimmy Page shuffle. Anyone who has seen them live knows what I'm talking about.

Every now and then I walk to center and play some guitar solos on my bass.

My move has been described as....

A series of random pointing and clapping followed by an apocalypse of biblical proportions.

i end every song with a spin-kick, double bass throw combo that usually ends up hitting the vocalist in the head.

i lose more singers that way... :P

I think I definately had some sweet signature moves. I had the T-Rex, where I stalked the stage in large, swooping, exaggerated steps in rhythm with the song. Sometimes I'd lean back as far as I could while playing, which makes one feel especially badass. During a few sections, I would two-step while playing. oh yea, and the Machine gun, where during a duh-duh-duh-duh double bass drum section, you hold the bass like an AK and pretend to shoot the audience.

playing in my last band was way too fun, it definately brought out my goofy side.

I like to put one foot on a monitor and thrust my hips. Then do a kick when I am ready to go somewhere else.
