We played a show last night. Your boy rocked a kilt.
So this local bar, Travelers, has an open mic night every other Thursday. It just so happened to be on St. Patrick's Day. We're all really good friends with the main bartender, who also occasionally books metal shows. She asked a few bands to come play, we all agreed instantly since we all have work the next day and weren't planning on whooping it up. The next day I get a facebook invite to "St. Patrick's day bash! Featuring KILLJOY!" from the bar's facebook page. It's always lovely to get top billing. Since we were given free reign over what we were playing we decided to play everything we currently play and see how long we could last, we figured it was 2 hours of material.
The drink specials were amazing, I would've went regardless. $5 car bombs set the mood for the night. By "set the mood" I mean we were the only sober ones by the time we hit the stage. Yes, even me...the "guy who BRAGS about lighting up a joint before every show." I have an upper respiratory infection so I was lucid.
Anyways, a few days pass by and every other band couldn't make it. That's cool, it'll be like Down's "An evening with Down" tour...right? Nope. It went back to the old format and it wound up being us headlining an open mic night. We had mixed emotions about it until the bands started playing. They weren't great but between songs it was "Who's ready for Killjoy?", "We're so glad our first show is with Killjoy!', etc. and the drunken crowd was going apepoop. Needless to say, it was touching/awesome, there were a ton of people gviing us props.
A fan of ours works for ugotpwned.net, a group of fledgling photographers who specialize in live metal. They've done Slayer, Megadeth, and a bunch of other big acts. He brought down a few of his underlings to shoot the whole show, I'll post the pics soon. But here's an awesome video:

Our buddies from another band wanted to play an acoustic set so we decided to cut our 2 hour set down to 90 minutes and let them play after us. They were so drunk they had to bring stools up to sit on because they couldn't stand up straight enough. Surprisingly they did a great job, no sour notes or missed lyrics...just some interesting timing thanks to the bongo player. The sound guy plays drums and came up for a STP cover(gotta love open mic) at the end.
After the music was over, I dropped my drunk ass roommate off at another bar to get some coke and I went home to watch some ninja turtles and go to bed. Overall a good, sober St. Paddy's for me.
