I agreed to do a gig on my weekend to work. I work 12's on the weekends I work. So, I got up at 5:30am to be to work at 7am. Work until my relief, that always covers me on "those" gig nights. He gets there, I go to the gig, play, get home and get to sleep around 1am. Get back up at 5:30am to work another 12. My head is crawling from the Cokes and Monster Energy Drink.....and my behind is dragging. I hope to get some good sleep tonight. How much sleep do you require? |

| | | | I manage to do quite OK with about 6 to 7 hours of sleep per night. Can't do with any less without feeling like a zombie for a few days.
Last friday I slept for about 4 hours (can't even really remember at what time I got in bed), and that day I started to drop everything, really sucked at bassplaying, had a really bad rehearsal, couldn't really sit down for more than 10 minutes without thinking "I'm going to fall asleep right here, right now"... (I also had less than 7 hours of sleep the nights before) |

Granted, I'm only working about 9 hours a day, but my job is quite physical work. Often times, 6 days a week here as of recently. By Friday or Saturday, I sit in the recliner and drop by 9 at night. My wife usually wakes me up and says "you're snoring, wake up, go to bed".

Last year I worked a part time night job half the night, splitting my sleep schedule into 2 - 4 hour increments over the course of a 24 hour day. My day schedule/job/family/etc. cut into day sleep time though, but still I couldn't sleep well at night. Dunno what's up with that. Anyway, the result was I aged more in 8 months than in the preceding 5 years.
Also I've forgotten entire conversations, and numerous things that are semi-important. Just found out today that my wife has us scheduled for a cruise this summer. Supposedly I knew all about it last summer when she booked it. I was completely surprised when she was talking about it over lunch with our friends today.
Other scary things: I woke up driving 2 times in the middle of the night, not knowing where I was. Also one night driving to work I forgot how to turn on my windshield wipers and have had trouble remembering since. It's been 4-6 months...

It doesn't matter how little sleep I get, I start getting a second wind around 5:00pm.
I had a job where I had to be at work at 8:00am. For the last few months of that job, I would wake up at work. I would not remember getting up and driving to work and I would fall asleep at my desk till 9:00. |

If you don't get enough restorative sleep(dream time) over about 6-8 hours, IME, it's like losing about 10 IQ points over time. You do get dum and dummer. |
