So, I arrived at the bar. Set up my rig. Plugged in my bass and...nothing... then, the smell of burning electronics!
I unplugged it and smoke started coming from the jack plug and from under the pickguard..
Electronics fried out! Lucky I had another bass with me...
DAMN!

Is your bass active?

It could be a fault on the ground connection (DC on the ground) or your signal side had a problem (current where there should not have been any)
Either way, not good!
Other possibility is inside your bass. If you have an active bass, if something shook loose and a connection was made between ground and positive, your 9v battery would short and could explain the burning! Perhaps the audio plug you connected to your bass was shorted at the other end, causing the hot bass? |

| | | A 9v battery (or even two of them in an 18V bass) wouldn't normally have enough power to make smoke. Even a dead short across the terminals only makes the battery get warm. Definitely get the bass and the a mp looked at by someone who knows what they are doing!

Ok, seriously, you need to get that checked out. Did you forget a lighter in your control cavity? |

| | | I bet it's the amp. My active ibby had tons of problems with the Electronics and I never got any smoke out of it. Killed the preamp and fried tons of batteries with different shorts but no smoke.... Then again it was an Ibanez
