So I tried 'singing' at band today...

Seeing as my new band is a singer down, it was a 'whoever wants to sing can do so' practice.

So stupidly, I decided to do so. I have got to be the world's WORST singer-bassist. I didn't know the tune so I just made something up, which sounded awful, and then couldn't stay in key.

Saying that, I CAN sing and play bass at the same time, which made this little Rush fan VERY happy.

Geddy Lee I ain't....

I would hope EVERYONE has done that at least once at a practice or jam! It's called having fun! Ahhh, the memories of me singing Ozzy!

Go for it. Every human has a voice. I started (hesitantly) singing 20 years ago with similar results. Today I am comfortable doing lead on 3 or 4 songs a set and do backup harmonies. I'm no Geddy either but I've developed a way to work around my range with decent results. I always remember reading how Jimi Hendrix decided to sing after hearing Bob Dylan sing, with that said I think we've all got voice but you just have to find you style, know your limits but push yourself beyond your comfort zone.

Yeah, I sing and play bass. Almost exclusively back ups. I sing lead on one song. I honestly believe the band just tolerates me when I do it.
I'm not a powerfully strong singer that's for sure.

I've been practicing more though, just so I can project better.

Thank goodness for excellent sound men!

I'm a really good singer. In fact, I'd say I'm better at singing than playing bass, but I find it difficult to sing and play elaborate bass parts at the same time. My bass playing suffers more, though I occasionally have staccato sounding vocal lines (instead of the usual legato/connected) in unconscious imitation of the bass.
