Happry B-day..I'll hot the 4-0 in a few more weeks.
I did the same thing, sold all my gear to be a "normal adult" the wife bought me a 5 string about 6 yrs ago..I've been in a hard rock cover band since.
So yes...you youngins....
DON'T SELL OFF THE GEAR!!
and to us old guys...we can't headbang as hard..but damnit we can still hold down the rhythm..

I have been forty for almost 3 months now and the good thing is nobody would believe me and everyone thought I was early or mid 30s.
