So this is the life of a TOP session player?

:D

Maybe that's why his bass playing has always bowled me over when I hear it.

Some engineers will do anything to get the right reverberant field on a miked cab...

pasta4lnch 12-17-2012 08:58 AM

Hey, I stuck am acoustic guitar player in the crapper once. But it was more for amusement than "capturing the room" :D

Portphilia 12-17-2012 09:06 AM

I thought Jim Morrison was the only one who did his takes in the bathroom??

Bassamatic 12-17-2012 09:14 AM

At least Lee gets to sit on a chair!

Russell L 12-17-2012 09:50 AM

And when nature calls he can move over to the other seat without missing a lick.:smug:

Based on the wallpaper and carpet, it looks like the bathroom at a nice hotel. They must have needed to do some tracks bad. Either that or Lee had the runs and wanted to be close by just in case. Is that a mic right in front of his bridge? What is THAT supposed to do?

Smallmouth_Bass 12-17-2012 09:58 AM

And he just has to lean his head down a bit to use his built-in mute!

didn't he use one of those small GK combos for a long time? that'd fit next to the throne . . . at least I'm not sure I want to think of an alternative :hiding:

As funny as that looks, lots of recordings were made in restrooms due to acoustics. I co-own and co-produce a radio show and we did some recordings where the DJ and microphone were in the bathroom. We joked that he could take a shower or use the toilet while he recorded. The quality of the sound in that room was the best for our recording purposes.

I have never been to a hotel that has a wicker hamper in the corner of the bathroom... I am guessing it is somebody's house but I don't go to many classy hotels...

Could be a restaurant - last minute cramming the basslines?

ACalbass 12-18-2012 05:26 AM

What is this called ? The hangover sessions??

dbase 12-18-2012 06:10 AM

I'm thinking of putting our drummer in the crapper... Thats how loud he is.

sobie18 12-18-2012 11:14 AM

Shoot, I've heard some bands with drummers so bad, I was beginning to think that they put some boots in the dryer, turned it on, and put a couple of room mic's on it... :crying:

pasta4lnch 12-18-2012 06:44 PM

actually might make sense if he's got an amp in there. not a lot of places that have that many rooms to iso. . .

I told my old singer his drumming sounded like somebody threw a brick in a washing machine... it really did. That kind of noise where you can almost tell where the next hit is going to be, but it comes either way too early or way too late. He said he was "creative"

Isn't that a direct box in the lower right side of the picture? This is an insult to Mr. Sklar!!!

Actually, I don't know what it is... It kind of looks like a snake box, and it looks like there might be an amp set up just out of view to his right. It's just funny to think that they were somehow punishing Mr. Sklar for being bad or something. "GO SIT IN THE BATHROOM AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU DID! Oh, and take your bass, too."
