So they don't cal it the Wall of Death for nothing...

Metallica and Lamb Of God are in town at the moment and I went and saw them last Wednesday (I also saw Metallica in September with Fear Factory, but I really wanted to see LOG this time and saw it as a good excuse to escape the 24/7 job I have).

So I stood at the back of the pit and watched Lamb Of God play, and they really owned the old snake pit stage. Totally impressed with their show. Now, if anybody knows anything about a Lamb Of God show, their last song is always Black Label and it always has the Wall Of Death, where the crowd splits to the sides and then on Randy's cue, charges at each other with elbows flying. After standing in the middle last time and almost getting knocked out from the carnage of 400 people charging into me, I decided this time I would run in one of the sides. While getting ready to run, I saw a couple guys (out of 40 000 people at the gig) from the pub I used to work at standing at the other side. So I point at them, make the throat slice sign and line them up for the kill, BIG TIME. And this is where it all went seriously wrong...

Now, I am a firm believer in drinks of any kind not being allowed anywhere near the mosh pit, it is very dangerous. When Randy cued for us to run, I took three steps, slipped over in a puddle of beer, got immediately kicked in the jewells and face by my two mates (220lb guy in the jewells, 260lb guy in the face). Then the people were tripping on me and I was at the bottom of a ten man pile up with only my head exposed. I then copped another 6 shots to the face from people falling over and tripping on my face. By the time I was pulled from the bottom of the carnage, I had tears in my eyes. As I was walking out of the pit I was wiping my eyes and someone then pushed me straight back in. So then I violently exited and went straight back to my girl.

Unbelievably, there is no major damage to my face. It swelled up a little bit, but there was no discolouration (admittedly, I don't bruise very easily).

Did I have fun? F*** YEAH!!!!

Cheers,
Jordan

Starting a rhumba line would be safer...plus you get to grab hold of a chick's butt without fear of retaliation.

You kids!

Hey guys, let's all run around in a circle and hit each other!

Seriously, where did the idea of a mosh pit come from?

Wow, who could of predicted someone might get hurt with a deal like that?
Sounds like eventually someone will be killed and the band will have to pay out on huge lawsuit.

My most memorable moshy-centric shows:

-R.A.M.B.O.: seriously... props... skits... INSANITY!! You can find clips on YouTube... search 'Wall of Death the System'.

-9ShocksTerror: fireworks.

-Municipal Waste: Have a show. Make it beach party themed. Place 2 mini trampolines facing the crowd on both corners of the stage. HAVEFUN!!

-BadLuck13: If you don't know, you really have no idea what it's like to be scared for your own saftey at a show.

-Turmoil: Last show at Hellfest 2001... **** Got buck crazy!

-WhatxHappensxNextx?: RUN. FAST. TURN. LEFT!!!

-Vitamin X: Thrash it up!!!

-Tear it up: TEAR IT DOWN!!!

Who needs mosh / metal?!? Even a decent polka band can get normally sane people to do the "Hokey Pokey" and "Chicken Dance".

mosh pits can be quite fun. The last ones I were in were at Summer Slaughter tour in July (an annual lineup of about 10 death metal bands). I went into the Decrepit Birth pit, and about 5 seconds after I jumped it, I got headbutted full force by some jerk. Needless to say, I had to sit on the edge of the crowd with dizziness spells and a splitting headache for about an hour. The show was amazing though.

The last wall of death I was in stopped abruptly because both sides just kinda went SPLAT! into each other.

LoG FTW though.

getting hurt kinda takes away the enjoyment of music. I would consider a mosh pit if I was 14-16 years old.

I have always thought maybe there is hope for humanity because (this was the 80's) even the skinheads didn't usually cold-clock anyone in the pit during a show or at a club.

I'm pretty sure more than one person has been killed in a Wall of Death, and that's how it got its name.

The Wall of Death as described ("elbows flying") sounds stupid.

The whole wild punching/kicking thing during moshing was started by idiot poser meatheads with something to prove. Or more honestly, idiot poser meatheads who couldn't physically or psychologiclaly withstand regular moshing, and so instead started to incorporate random swinging/kicking to their "dancing" in order to try and intimidate regular moshers who just wanted to jump around and bounce off one another.

Couple comments here...
First off: Man card, revoked
Second: Right to listen to heavy metal, revoked.

If my mom told me not to go into a pit, I would give her my "Yeah, alright." look, and do it anyway. However, she was all for bringing my 15 year old bro into one, so I am lucky.

On that note, I am jealous of the OP. Always wanted to see LoG live, I love their music, and their live DVDs always rule.
