For Some Things, You Can Only Facepalm.

So I was reminiscing while playing my fretless (which is my first bass, but modded the crap out of ) about my early days as a bassist, and I remembered my Middle School jazz band days.

I was playing the whole time without being able to really hear myself. I was getting aggravated.

Josh must have turned me down! (josh was a good buddy (who still is) that I was in a fight with at the moment)

I had no time to adjust my EQ, and furious, played a solo that no one but myself could even halfway hear. After the concert, I approached Josh and demanded "did you touch my amp!?" to which he, puzzled, answered an honest no. I didn't believe him. I walked off, hating his guts for what he'd done. I was packing my stuff, and as I was unplugging and readying-for-transport my amp, I saw that the "-15 db" switch was on.

Moral of the story: GK SHOULDN'T PUT THAT STUPID SWITCH ON THERE!

Better moral: Check your gear before you play.

A db cut switch is useful under certain conditions. Be careful not to engage it accidentally when its function is not required/desired.

Isn't that so you can switch it for when you're using an active bass?

The switch is there so a guitarist, desperate for an Ego Moment, can sneak over, smack it, then scheeeel, hoodly-hoo, shred and otherwise draw attention to himself pretending to be a musician without that pesky bass getting in the way...

As an old friend of mine said, equipment works much better when it's plugged in and turned on.

That extends to actually checking the controls.....
