This is walnut. My bass has walnut. People have been asking what walnut sounds like. I've had my ear to this thing for 2 days and I swear, I cant hear a thing.

That's because it's actually in the fingers. Try stroking the block as you hold it.

Edit: And boo to beating up on my poor Redskins

Well, Carol Kaye says, that the wood doesn't affect the sound - just the strings (Thomastik Flats) and pickups.
Well, I have a set of strings and pickups in front of me. No sound coming from them at all

Nice piece of wood you have there friend!

The tone is in your fingers. Try putting your fingers in your ears. Still nothing? I SAID, STILL NOTHING?

The sustain, listen to it.

I'm not hearing anything...

You would though, if it were playing.

Nah, you've got it wrong. Gotta turn the knobs up and plug it into an amp.

Try a hearing aide. It should make a nice clunky sound. Perhaps try dropping it?

Nah. You should listen to the alder/ash of a P-bass. Sounds better than anything in any context.

Obviously, you're doing it wrong. Make a ruler out of the wood, hold it off the edge of a table, and release (or smack) it so that it vibrates.
