So... of all of you crazy mofos... who has smashed a bass?? Tell your story!
I guess this is a "future gig story," but anyways, when I was younger, I purchased the lovely agathis neckdiving paperweight known as a Bronze series BC Rich Warlock. It has been involved in multiple accidents and has nice cracks on the edges of the saddle and on the neck itself. It has multple other serious injuries as well. I still have it (although it is on my previously owned list... I actually just shoved it under the bed and retired it) and I am going to put it out of its misery.
I fixed it up enough to get through one final song... but now I am saving it for the final song at this gig called Gigaroo 5 in July, and then in spectacular fashion, smash it!
Oh yeah... my band is classic-influenced metal. How fitting... and our final song is usually a cover of Peace Sells.

This particualr bass was purchased from a friend of mine who played in a death metal band. I loved the sound of it, for being an active bass I was able to get alot of growl from it. Anyway, over the three years I owned it I worked and abused the life right out of this thing.
The first great instance was at a show when the bottom strap bead tore out, and in drunken frustration I proceeded to toss it back and forth across stage for the rest of the set, and beat it with one of me drummers broken cymbals afterwards. But thats not even the kicker, out of sentiment for this bass I repaired it, and played it for another year and a half at which time the inevitable happend. Whil playing a halloween show I slammed the neck into the back of my singer pretty hard (gave him a nasty bruise), and the headstock snapped off. Since this particular model is a solid piece, I demolished the rest of it by Piledriving it off the bass drum (a move now refered to as the 'Bass Driver'), thowing it full-force into a wall, and just beating the rest into pulp on the floor.
I have since bought a new one, and keep the old headstock in my pedal case as sort of a Good Luck Charm.
P.S. There is an obituary for this bass on my blogs on my myspace page at www.myspace.com/mike13bass

FLCL?? YES! Now I don't feel alone in the knowlege of that insane anime haha.
Buy anyways dude... The Warlock is indeed a rather cheap bass in terms of quality, but it still did its job pretty well. The one I had was made of agathis, but the BC Rich website reports that they again switched back to basswood bodies, which is a better wood than agathis. It is a heavy bass, and I have experienced pretty good neckdive with mine... get a big strap! You will need to get a Coffin Case for it because only they have the proper shape to contain a Warlock body.
I had your same theory too... about buying the bass and then putting in new pickups. I put in quarter pounders. It is strange though... that the dimensions of their stock pickups are wider than normal Fender-spec P pickups. You will need to drill new holes for Fender-spec pickups. That is no problem, but if you plan on using the stock pickups in a different bass, it wont work haha. The stock pickups don't have a very deep tone to them anyways. So, you replace the electronics then the bass should sound fine.
Even with my jabbering though... go to a store and try one out. That is the best way to tell. You can get good tone by swapping electronics... but make sure you can handle the weight and balance first! I know people who cannot stand that bass because of those two factors.

Dean Metalman Flying V - Cant get the gibsons as their too rare , or too expensive , so might as well get this and put in EMG's . FLCL addiction again...
Warlock - Same as your case . Although after a long talk with a friend I'm doubting buying either of these .
My final , and according to a lot of people , a very good choice would be the Yamaha BB414 , but whatever...
Lunar : I can even see the P! Haruka has on her Vespa !!! Awesome pyon~~!~!!! And the brown/yellow doesnt look half bad . Too bad I cant get one of these Hondo copies over here . |

Sorry Mr. Hiatt, but my Warlock is not so perfectly good anymore so a sacrifice shall be made
magnusdeus123: I have the Metalman 2A V. I actually like it very very much... a lot more than a bunch of more expensive basses. I am still dealing with the stock electronics, but I am EQing out the imperfections. The balance is SO nice. Too bad that the only other bass V options are the rare and expensive Gibson V bass and getting one custom made. But, I am looking out for a Dean Tour V.
It is a higher-end V with a set neck and EMGs. I sent several emails back and forth to Dean about 3 months ago, asking about the V, and the rep said that Tour V's are out there on the market, but are no longer in production.

I mean cmon , I was at a battle of the bands yesterday , and most guitarists had an explorer or a V style . I could definitely imagine bassists hungring for those . The bass market is so clogged , you basically have a handfull of popular designs and thats it . Utter rubbish .
The only grudge I got with the V Metalman , is precisely that......it's a METAL bass . I dont mind that , but I want something more along like mid line , which can play rock , as well as the jazzy low end tones . I was thinking along the lines of getting the 2a V and replacing Pups with EMG's . Whats your take on that ?? |

| | | There was a thread similar to this one a while back and one guy was telling a story how he went to spin his bass over his shoulder (or around his back), the strap broke and he ended up sending the bass over the drummers head. When the bass his the wall/ground it sounded like a bomb going off...
Looked like this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixA8cA_fVJc

I'm just not bulky, I'm more wiry. And that bass is pretty indestructible. You should see the extensive damage done to the things I've hit with it. It's pretty comical...

The neck was warped to hell and the pickups sounded terrible, so I took it to a local mall and smashed it in the middle of December shopping season. I got a lot of dirty looks as I was being escorted out, but it was a hell of a time. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
