I used to play in this cover band called Keith Richards Blood Transfusion. It was a lot of fun, we played some great tunes and I always had a good time. We'd been on hiatus but were resurrected for a house party show last night. So we've had a couple practices over the last few weeks, no pressure because we all pretty much know the songs and this isn't a paying gig.
The thing is, the house party was in a townhouse basement. OK, but we had been assured that the people who lived in the adjacent townhouses would be no problem because on one side, they were out of town, and on the other side they were cool. Plus there would be 30-40 people at the party.
So, after lugging the gear and PA down there and setting up, it comes time for us to play and:
1 - the people in attendance are outnumbered by the people in the band
2 - the people who were supposed to be away just got back -- and they're old
3 - the people who were supposedly "cool" have a newborn
We played a few very soft, very mellow country versions of some songs to kill time, finally figured "screw it" and started the set, and were made to stop after the first song. Classic. What a wasted day. |

Stuff like this is a good reason not to do party gigs for free.

we'll only consider it if the person is willing to pay a high cost, which most would consider ridiculous. and if we have to supply pa we'll charge more.
also our experience (not much) playing parties = being treated like crap. hah! |

Actual treatment was more like another party guest and therefore friend of the owner/party-giver(s).

treated like gods? awesome. i guess we just have bad luck :P
last time we were abused and then ignored for refusing to leave our gear on a trailer in a field over night. after being treated like servants. by someone who was a friend that most of us had known for almost 10 years |
